Transmission Question
My car developed the dreaded leak at the adapter plug on the trans ,,I took it in to the Dealer to get replaced and when they tore it down the brass screw that holds the adapter in place was stripped ,they said they where unable to get the adapter out because the screw just kept turning in place and would not come out ... they said the throttle body had to be dropped to get to the piece that the screw went in to , and replace it cost of all parts involved are around 385.00 + labor . has anyone else heard of this situation and would this be a good time to put new selenoids in< the blue top ones i believe>.
Thanks for any help....

how bout you taking another look at the 3rd pic looks like a screw to me ,,,,,,the unit this pc conects to will have to be replaced is what there telling me
There's a bolt that holds the electric adapter onto the connector plate that is located above the "valve" body (not throttle).
The connector has to come out before you can drop the connector plate that is connected to the valve body.
My guess is they jacked it up or the bolt is already loose and they just haven't tugged hard enough on the connector to get it out.

valve body ,,,sorry about that ,,this is what i thought I ask him him how it could get stripped when it had never been messed with .. Mike do you have to turn the adapter or just pull straight out..
tha adapter was 8.65 + tax >>>>seem like BS to me

Ok. they are talking about the connector plate. I had to replace mine cuz I jacked up the pins.

It looks like a screw if you know its a screw, I enlarged the photo and you can just make out threads, if you know they are threads.
I answered this thread because I thought the price was outrageous and was willing to put my 1.5 cents in.
I'd break the part if I had to, get at the screw and yank it out, replace the screw with one that bit into the stripped hole and put all back together. Worry about it later if it happened again and save my money now.
But I'm a cheap Canadian not a rich American. That's why I only put 1.5 cents in.

Howard, isnt this under warranty/tsb? This should cost you nothing. If the part is messed up, they are the ones that took it apart, not you. They own the repair. ...
oh yeah.... if you have to drop the pan it would be a great time to install the blue top solenoids if you want them....

i REALLY DO TRY TO NOT TO GET INTO EVERY PLAYGROUND TIFF, BUT.
The first connector is dirty and old, it has a male threaded fastener.
The second clean connector is female, which means that the male pin unscrewed from the connector shell and not the connector. They are doing it and if its a TSB, go for it, but otherwise Id go with the northamericans idea. However they (dealer) do in their shop their way and wishing it otherwise is a bit late at this time, so you may go with the flow.
Me Id rip it out and go without and use the twist lock to hold the whole mess together. Woody

Dudes. The plug pictured above "screws" into this connector.

The plug in turn "grabs" the wire harness when you spin the outer collar on the plug. I don't think the entire assembly would hold by just spinning the collar. Unless the collar actually locks onto the trans housing. Don't remember.
I could be wrong. It's been awhile since I played with this particular area.

Found a good pic of the plug and the connector (plug). The one on the left goes inside the one on the right. The threaded area at the top of left plug is what the white collar on the right locks into. So these two plugs will be held together. But the entire assembly still needs a way to connect to the trans.
Looks like yer gonna have ta put some sort of screw/bolt in there to hold it all in there.

I wonder if just pulling on the plug while turning the screw would let it back out,,,and again it may already be loose and just need to be pulled on harder....., really nice pics Mike thanks ,,,makes it easier to see what i'm dealing with ,,,,,where can i get the blue top solenoids if I decied to let go that route,?

Thank DJ for the pics... they are great... you can get the blue tops from any MB dealer.... you'll have to search for the PN... Rudy may know it...
picked up the adapter at lunch from dealer this should just pull straight out and adding pulling presure should let the screw back out ,,,I think the dealer was trying to give me a bath ,,
