Default That F%^**&*## Washer (Sprint Booster)

OK Gentlemen, I have read multiple times the way to remove the washer on the accelerator pedal stud is with a magnet. I have been screwing around with a multitude of magnets and still can't get the little ******* out. I can't find one of those little kid horse shoe magnets. Any suggestions?

No need to remove the pedal, if you remove side panel under console

Thanks for the reply, but I did get the side panel off and can see the connector. I just don't seem to have enough muscle in my fingers to get the damn thing off. That's why I'm foolin' with the stud washer.

Same problem I had. So I went back to getting the washer off. I kept wiggling the pedal and kept lifting up until it finally came off. My ribs hurt and my back hurts. I drilled out the washer before I replaced it.

I appreciate your reply. I also appreciate your service to our country. You guys are the unsung hero's of our generation. Thanks. Guess I'll go back out to the garage and start wiggling now that I know the wiggle method will work if I'm patient and persistent.

You've probably got it by now; but if not, what worked for me was a pair of long, straight tweezers spread open and it snatched it out cleanly. You must be very slow and precise, like you're operating on the patientLOL Reaming it out or using another washer with slightly larger i.d. is a good idea for next time around. Good luck.

Same problem I had (the washer). My ribs and back hurt the next day SOOO BAD.

I used a pen sized magnet like was suggested before. You have to rotate the magnet as you're lifting it in order to get it all the way out. And DEFINITELY replace it with a washer with a larger I.D. Good luck!

Next time I have to do ANYTHING down in the pedal area; I think I'll just pull the driver seat if it's as easy as other vehicles I've done this to. Getting old sucks!

I can pull the pedal in about 1 minute. I trashed the nut and washer and added a stud nut. Its taller and when loose you turn it by hand. There is one of my threads on it and Ill try to find it for you. Woody

Ok, I got the little bugger off with a 13 mm socket with a little crazy glue on the rim. This was my first method but I was using a tired tube of glue and a 10mm socket so it didn't work. You have to hold the 10mm in place, the 13mm fits snug.

Next question. How does the top of the pedal unhook? Thanks

P.S. The above washer removal method has to be the easiest way available. Just put a really small amount of super glue on the rim of the socket. Lower it in, wait a while and pull it out.

Wiggle the top as you are pulling out. It has a post that sits in a hole.

INSTALL PHOTOS compliments of PAULW

Option 1
You need to remove the throttle pedal following step below:
1. Remove the lower nut cap.
2. Remove the 10mm nut.
3. Remove the washer, a magnet helps.
4. Remove the pedal, lift the bottom pulling out and pull it out of the upper bracket.
5. Unplug the tps cable from the sensor.
6. Plug the tps cable into the Sprint Booster.
7. Plug the Sprint Booster cable into the tps sensor.
8. Reinstall the pedal assembly.
9. Go for a test drive, you WILL SMILE !!!

Option 2
Remove the kick panel on the console. This is the panel that is to the right of your foot as you sit in the car. First remove the screw on the side of the console where the vent is. After that is removed remove the second Phillips screw holding the side panel on the console in place. Remove the drivers side of the console. Now look back above the gas pedal and there is the plug. Squeeze the sides to release the locking mechanism on the plug. Unplug and insert the SB. Replug the plugs with the SB in line. Replace console side and screw and then the vent and screw and now you are done! No pedal removal or nut to drive you nuts. Simple.

Bill, is that all it took to make you smile? Tell me about it.

What I did was to take a hot glue gun and put a little glue on a deep well socket that was a little bigger than the stud. After the glue sets (only a few seconds) TWIST the socket to make sure it is not glued to the stud. Remeber I said to put a LITTLE glue on it. Then you can twist the socket and the washer will thread itself off the stud. After you get the washer off, drill it out so next time it will come off easier.
