So my car has been sitting for 5 months since the first mechanic I took it to couldn't figure out the problem. Two days ago I took it to a new mechanic, called him today, and he to is unsure. He says "it might be" an issue with the ignition which will cost be around 2k with parts and labor. Or it might be an alarm issue. He checked all my fuses, they came out fine,and said my starter safety switch is good. Here are my symptoms.

1. Car won't start ( not even crank)

2. No click sound, nothing when key is turned

3. Car does start when I push start it( it's Manuel)

4. I change out the license plates lights months before
My car died and accidentally touched metal with the screw driver which blew out the fuse. I placed a "more powerful" fuse which I think might of melted alarm wires, because after that my alarm would go off on its own. I had to unplug the siron. Drove the car like that for months no problem.

5. The key fob is a bit damaged. The prongs that come in contact with the fob batteries broke off, so I cannot unlock or lock my cars via the fob anymore.


I know it's a lot of info, but this forum is my best bet. Getting advice from people that have lived it(you can't beat that).

Sure sounds like the 3 solder points in the RCM.
Have you tried resoldering them, or replacing the RCM module ?
search "Mystery No Start"

 

I actually had once the engineers at my workplace resolder it, after my crappy attempt at soldering it myself.

 

I'm not sure if it's any help but doesn't the clutch have a safety switch on it that prevents the car from being started unless the clutch is depressed. Could it be possible the switch has gone bad?

 

Good point it has happened before, also and this is a bit unlikely, not having driven the car for a while is the pedal clutch being pushed down?

 

The mechanic checked the switch under the pedal, and yes I do pump the clutch once a week when I push start it.

 

Well, if it will push start, then there is nothing wrong with the PTCM / RCM / fuel supply.
That kinda narrows it down to the ignition switch or pulse module.
The member over in Mississippi found he had a bad wire from the PTCM to the Pulse module a month or so ago ....
( the pulse module is located in the under hood fuse box next to the fender after you remove the top, then the second cover. )

 

I'd also add that the power cable to the starter is faulty or a has a bad connection. Check the ground wire as well to cover the bases.

Also check the battery connection, a badly clamped cable cannot complete the circuit as it will just spark. I forgot to tighten the clamp screw and it started at home but not in the plaza parking lot no click, nothing, fortunately I found my error pretty quick.

I discovered this a few years ago
Intermittently my car would not start and a few times even stopped running momentarily
After a few of these episodes I discovered it was a slightly loose positive battery cable connection
I discovered this myself and tightened the crap out of it and never had the problem occur again since

 

Hey guys so the problem has been fixed. Come to find out it was the ignition switch. My mechanic asked me if I wanted to pay the $300 for a new ignition switch, or if I wanted to install a push start button on my car for $25. Guess which one I picked. My car is up and running again. I think this would be a good thread to save if any fellow xfire members encounter the same issue in the future. Thanks for all your help!
