Default Bas/esp light

I have a 2005 Crossfire Limited with 13,500 miles on it. I have owned it for one year. Three weeks ago the BAS/ESP light went on and I took the vehicle to service center with an excellent reputation for fixing any/all vehicles. They ran a diagnostic test and determined that I needed a new YAW Rate Sensor which they installed the following week. After installation, the scanner said that the problem was fixed. However, the BAS/ESP light continued to stay on. They tried 3 different scanners to "reprogram" the vehicle with no success in turning the light off. This week they will re-install a new and different YAW Rate Sensor. However, I am concerned that the results will be the same. The part with labor cost $1,325 plus $110 for the initial diagnostic test.
Any ideas on why the light continues to stay on when the diagnostic test states that the problem part has been fixed?
Your help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Dennis

Should have come here before you spent $1325. Does your cruse control work? Have you synchroized the ESP (page 143 in the owners manual)?
DO NOT spend more money on the YEW sensor.
Here is a link to much info for your exact problem; BAS/ESP

Most of the time you just have to start the car, turn the steering all of the way to the left then all of the way to the right, back to center and turn the car off . Then restart and take it for a short drive and it should go off. I doubt your Yaw sensor was bad. I don't think yhey tried to rip you off, just don't know crossfires. The search feature at the top R/H corner of this site can save you money and frustration.

I had a similar problem with my 2005 SRT-6. The BAS/ESP light would come on after about 5 to 10 minutes of driving and go off when the car was turned off. I took the car to the dealer and they replaced a leaking master brake cylinder and they thought that would take care of the problem. It did not solve the problem. I bought a OBD reader and found I had an error code (C1142 ABS Lateral Acceleration Sensor Open/Shorted). I replaced the sensor, cleared the error and took it for a drive and and the BAS/ESP light came on just as before. This would happen every time I drove the car. A few months later after the repair, the car would not turn over so I replaced the 3 year old battery. After replacing the battery, I have not had the BAS/ESP light come on since (over two years). I did test the battery periodically and it always tested good.

So often, it is a simple fix, such as a flaky battery - which tests 'good' - which is why I always say, "Replace the battery and go from there."

$1445 for a sensor? How can anyone charge that?

Ive' been a member here since 2009. I can't remember if anyone ever replaced a yaw sensor, I sure don't remember such a replacement fixing anything.
I'd be interested in what the hell "diagnostic test" they ran that said "replace the YAW sensor".

They have a 1000 pound Kodiak bear that is trained to shake the car side to side,
Standard stuff.

I told a member to replace a two year old + battery on another thread and was rebuked for wasting money. For anyone who has not been battery shopping lately; "They do not make them like they use to." I do not know if this an EPA thing or just the manufactures trying to turn products and keep money flowing into their accounts, Most all new batteries are now 36 month, some are only 30 and you must hunt for the 48 warranty which of coarse is prorated. The past years with 60 month batteries are gone and so is the associated quality. I total concur that if you are having electrical issues with your car one of the very first moves you can do to help find or rectify the problem is get a new battery. If you have let the battery run down low to where it won't turn the starter over the life of that battery is on it's final days in the IC ward.
The other option is to hunt /order an Optima battery. I had one long ago and it worked fine. I'm planning on going that route with my next purchase on the family car, but will go light weight antigravity battery for the Crossfire.

This is in response to the BAS/esp light. Zip 439 asked if the cruise control works and it does. He also asked if the ESP was synchronized as stated on page 143 of the owner's manual. Page 143 in my owner's manual talks about the Parking Brake. I can't find anywhere a discussion on synchronizing the ESP light.
I am getting the impression that purchasing a new battery is the answer to turning off the BAS/ESP light. Is that correct?
Help would be appreciated.
Dennis

A new battery solved the problem I was having with the BAS/ESP light.
It is an easy way to eliminate one thing that could be causing the problem.

No guarantee that it will solve your problem.

Thank you for the response. The info on page 143 is that which ZERACER posted in post #3. Have you tried that?; turning the wheel lock to lock?? Did you click on the red link in my post #2. It runs the gambit of ESP/BAS problems and solutions and yes a good battery is very important when trying to remedy problems on our cars. If your cars battery is near or beyond three years old then replace it with a good quality new one. If the shop isn't using a DRB III scan tool then they are not using the Chrysler tool designed for the job. Any other scanner should be set not for a Chrysler, but a 2003 SLK 320 when scanning your car. The Crossfire was built in Germany and is basically a Mercedes 2003 SLK 320 with a skin designed by Chrysler. That may help you get going in the right direction. Replacing the anti lock brake and the ESP unit under the hood is an easy job. I recently changed one in under a hour with an inexpensive used replacement bought on ebay. I hope that is not necessary, but it might come to that, PLEASE read the link I provided in my first response. It will help you.
You said the cruise control works, yes? Like yesterday you drove the car, activated the cruise control and it worked fine? It may seem like a weird question, but it is important.

Druebel
By chance is the spoiler stuck in the UP position?
Is the gear selector display on the dash working or is it displaying a solid blacked out square?
