Default Theft Alarm Issue

Hi folks... I've recently experienced an issue with the "alarm" system in my STR6. The alarm will suddenly come on and the flashers start--even when I am driving. I have to pull over and stop, remove the key and hit the locking button to shut it off. It will come back on randomly whether it's sitting or driving. Is this something to do with the "Brain" In the trunk well? I had issues with the Brain and water and have replaced a connector and some wiring that was severely corroded. I also have NO interior lights working off the doors, and the headlamp delay stopped also... possible association? I have removed the battery cables and thoroughly cleaned the terminals because this happened a few years ago and that was the problem. Apparently if the voltage isn't "right" for the brain, it can trigger that alarm system. Anyone else have this issue and if so, were you able to correct it? Thanks SO much!! BoB in Mass.

Hi Bob, when your 'brain' in the trunk was replaced did you correct the water intrusion satisfactorily? Check for water at/in your 'brain-in-the-lower-hatch' again, maybe the wiring to the 'brain' wicked water up further than your repair and the wire(s) corroded through? Oh, yes, they can be all related through that brain module. Good luck!

I think part of your issue may be with the alarm itself. Either disconnect it or replace it. The battery corrodes the circuit board causing all kind of short issues. James

The loss of delayed lights and interior lights/door issues point to the ‘Brain’ or what is actually called the ‘CLP/SSM module in the trunk. Water has damaged it severely and it is no longer operating properly. The delayed lights both interior and exterior are timed by it.
That is my opinion anyway, damaged plugs means the water was quite high and got inside the module.
If you buy a used module make darn sure you get the four plugs with pigtails as you cannot rely on your plugs to be trouble free because of the corrosion that is possibly on them.

UGH!! Yeah, that's what I feared. I did find the original water leak in the improperly installed gasket under the spoiler panel and corrected it and NEVER saw a drop of water again... BUT. I'll have to pull that side apart again and go look. I didn't replace the brain (though I do have a complete 2nd unit just in case), but only a multi pin connector that corroded off the brain. Cleaned all terminals and rewired with solder and shrink tubing... BUT... Sigh... back into the trunk I go! Thanks for your answer as it "confirmed" what I suspected. The alarm issue is weird though.

I agree, that alarm issue is quite controversional. Some have reported it as fact though. IF it continues after you check that 'CLPSSM aka brain module', try the alarm module disconnect under middle windshield cowling (the replacement is expensive, there is an alternative alarm solution developed by 'corefire'). Good luck!

Just unplug the tilt module in the trunk, for now, and see if your issues go away.

you most likely need to either disable or replace the alarm siren, we have the new updated versions

Thanks.. I did find the improperly positioned "gasket" under the panel with the wing and re-positioned it properly. I've "SEEN" no further evidence of water intrusion, BUT... doesn't mean there isn't some there. I did drill a small drain hole in that cavity after the 1st incident "just in case". I'll have to go there and look again. BoB
