Default Oil Level Sensor

2005 Limited Roadster N/A, this is my first Crossfire, I purchased it in August of 2021 ... I have an oil leak at the oil level sensor, the sensor works but it looks like I need to replace the O-ring ... I know this involves removing the oil pan ... I have searched this Forum and found helpful instructions to remove the pan and sensor

Where is a good place to purchase the O-ring and pan gasket ... is one brand preferred over another? Any help and/or direction is appreciated ... Thank you

I do not recommend changing the o-ring only, the sensor might fail in the near future and you will have to do the job all over again. There is no pan gasket, you have to use an oil resistant sealant on the lower pan. I recommend the Mercedes sealant and you will need probably 2 tubes of that.

I see no reason to replace the sensor if it is working OK, why replace something which has historically fail rarely? An oil level sensor is an item that can be done without anyway. There is a dipstick after all.
That is my opinion anyway, why replace a perfectly working unit. The new one could be faulty from day one and fail next month as there is always that part that slips by inspection.
If it ain’t broke don’t fix it.

So if I understand you right I can totally remove the sensor and block off the hole it goes through ... and doing this will not cause any other problems or warning lights on the dash ... the only thing is I would need to check the oil level using the dipstick, which is how I do it anyway ... simply unplug the wires, remove the sensor, and block the hole ... sounds like a plan to me

I found an oil pan gasket at my local NAPA ... looking at the pan still on the car, it appears to have a gasket

Thank you for your help, it's appreciated

They do fail very often, Valk just had his replaced. I have had mine replaced. Just stay out of my posts, I have no desire to communicate with you ever again. You are as bad as your Wiki neighbor, especially the past couple of years.

No desire to communicate with me? That makes my day. I have no idea what makes this ‘your’ post’, or what makes you so touchy.

I appreciate your help ... I think I understand you now, replace the leaking o-ring and leave the sensor in place ... but what should I expect to happen if I did remove it and blocked the hole ... not because of your "could do without" comment, but because I have thought about that exact thing ... I use the dipstick, didn't even know I could check oil level from the driver seat until the leak made me look into it ...

Thank you again for your help

Think I found my answer after more research ... the Oil Level Sensor is also a Temp sensor so it seems ... I'll replace the O-ring and trust that stops the small leak I have ... Thanks for the help
