Top or Trunk ?
I was just returning from a car show and decided to put my top down on my 06 Roadster . The top motor sounded unusual to me wining as if straining so I stopped midway and went back to close position it never closed all the way . The rear part that locks into the body appears that the latch is already locked closed and my trunk is locked . I can't move the release freely on the trunk, it feels solid. I need to open and most importantly be able to close and lock the top in order to drive. Any input would be appreciated ..
Sounds like low fluid to me OR you were moving the top without the engine running.
BOTH of these will cause the top to fall out of sync with the controller and since the cycle did not complete, the trunk is still locked, as it locks during ANY top movement. (We generally disable that lock for when this kind of thing happens, but now is not the time to discuss that.)
Since the process did not complete, the trunk is still locked (it locks when the top moves up or down). You can TRY one thing, shut engine off, pop hood, get into the fuse box, drivers' side and yank the 25 amp top controller fuse. Leave it out 30 seconds or so.
Put fuse back in, start engine, and see if the top will move and complete the cycle.
NOTE: DO NOT EVER move the top up or down without the engine running, if you were moving the top without the engine running, it is likely that is what caused this nightmare. Otherwise, I'd guess you have low fluid, which means you also have a leaking cylinder or pump.

Here is how to move the top manually:

Here is my thread "Trunk Lid Jammed" back when I did not realize there was an electric trunk lock tied to the top controller:

There are two ways of opening the trunk when is it locked.
1) Using a credit card or other device, pry the driver's side tag light out, use my method of a steel coathanger from the "jammed" thread above, shaped to form a j-hook, to snag the emergency release (and ignore my advice in that thread to disable the emergency release, I no longer believe in that).
2) Using a credit card or other device, pry the passenger side tag light out, (the screws in the lens only hold the lens in, the actual assembly just snaps in) and use a screwdriver to manually move the arm in there that pops the trunk open.

And when you can, go back to your profile and fill in location information. If we know where you are, one of us may live close enough to come over and help, but if you want to remain anonymous, you are on your own.
Thanks I will try this. I always have engine running when operating my top . I think the latter.. I'm probably low on fluid and that's why I heard the wining and straining.. Thanks for the response .. Bobby
I have gotten the top to shut down, however the trunk is still locked.. Can I go in through left side lamp with the trunk down and be able to release the lock ?

PizzaGuy ..Thanks for all info ..I went and did a repeat of removing fuse and trying top to lock again ..Evidently it locked but didn't completely cycle. I heard the latch click and then the trunk released ..I found I had a parts bag jammed underneath the trunk separator and it really wasn't seated properly . Perhaps this is why all the staining noise on the top motor. I will for safety sake check my fluid level for top pump ... Bobby
