Default Audible warning briefly with top down manually

Good day - my 2005 limited roadster has a snapped drivers side tonneau cable and both lift cylinders leak, so have been raising and lowering the top manually since last October. I intend to get to it but in the meantime this works.
Over the past 2 weeks something new is happening. When I start the car the convertible top switch blinks now, it didn’t before, and if I try to drive it without any further action it keeps beeping but then stops, in intervals of a half dozen beeps at a time, then a pause, then the cycle repeats. It will do this for about 2 minutes, then stops altogether at which point the top switch is now dark. It will not happen again until you stop the car for a few minutes and then start it again, at which point the cycle repeats.

Today after I started the car but before I drove it I pressed the switch top down (light was on steady) and held it until it went off, heard a beep and then the windows started to go up. I let go…no light, no beeping. No problem.
There is no pressure in the top hydraulics and the tonneau is locked and the divider is seated.

What do you think is causing this…the system trying to tell me something is not right with the top when there is nothing to see and had a couple of weeks with no issue? Everything that should be locked down appears to be.
