Default Air bag light on

Crossfire Roadster 2004. Air bag light on.
Last year replaced the Relay Module.
Been told I need a Code Reader to locate fault as there are numerous possibilities.
Could anyone recommend a make and Model which would diagnose the fault on this model of car?
Have looked on Internet and noticed people have purchased Code readers which are not compatible with this car.

I'll give this a try:
Did you know that a national recall on Takata air bags effected some Crossfires? You can run your VIN here to check your car National Recall BE SURE YOU READ DOWN THE PAGE BEFORE YOU ENTER YOUR VIN
Scan tools that will reset the SRS light are a DRB emulator ( there may be one available here on the forums market place) , or the original DRB III factory Chrysler scan tool. Maybe one percent of "Chrysler" dealers have that tool available so I highly doubt any dealer will be able to help scan your car. As a general rule do not go to a dealer for anything related to the Crossfire. They will likely charge you a huge sum of money and damage your car in the process.
Read this thread on more info on the air bag recall. It is a very long thread but much useful info to glean: Crossfire air bag recall
For help when necessary you can try an independent European garage that specializes in Mercedes. Your Crossfire will scan as a 2003 SLK 320 so they may be able to help. ASK first before spending your money.
And you would be helping yourself if you would place your location on your account info! Do not need to be specific, but something like SE Tennessee, or Lower AL. You may get lucky and a member who lives near you will reach out and help you with a good scan. Good Luck and welcome to the forum.

Thank you for your help.
I now have a place to start from.
Have updated my location, that's also a good point.

Here is my airbag light story:

In 2016, I was putting the top up and was lazy, so I did not start the engine first. As the top was going up, the pump cycles on and off, causing system voltage to sag and spike. WHen it tried to lift the tonneau cover, the pump stalled, causing another spike in the battery feed. I had to manually put the top up.

What does this have to to with the airbag? Well, the voltag e spike destroyed the airbag module - I have an airbag light now. So, investigation showed the airbag module wont communicate at all now, it has died. I have an 07, 2007-2008 cars (in the USA) have a different module than 2004-2006, which is the only module I can find. They can be reprogrammed to your car, but they must be the right model.

RESOLUTION:
I pulled fuse 3 in the underhood fuse box, this made the light go out.
I do not need an airbag.
I never had my Takata airbag replaced because if I take it in, they will replace the airbag and see that the module is bad. Since the car is out of warranty, it would be a billable repair for the module to be replaced, assuming they can get one. Some dealers will refuse to release the car to you for "liability reasons" unless you agree to the repair.

Just keep these thoughts in mind.

If I ever sell the car (I won't) I will tell the new owner they have non-functioning airbags.

Not sure if anyone has a better one but my CRP123 reader does airbag reset and SRS light diagnosis (mine was a seat belt fault). Use the Mercedes SLK320 settings for compatibility. Mine was under $200. Canadian should be cheaper in the US

Great! Sounds like a great price. Bought mine a few years ago and it seems to work well.

Another reason the airbag light might be on is if you turned your ignition to the on state while the airbag was disconnected. I did that when I replaced my multifunction switch in the steering column. I wanted to test the switch before installing everything back. I have a micropod II DRB III emulator that worked to reset the error code. I think you can get them for ~$140, but you need a computer to drive it. Another member posted a virtual machine with all the DRB III software installed (you still need the micropod).
Good luck, sincerely
