Default Trunk Lid Lock Actuator

My convertible roof will not retract due to a diagnosed failed trunk lid actuator. The Mecedes replacement part numbers given are 170 750 03 84 and A170 750 03 84. Can I get confirmation from forum members that these are, indeed, accurate and any post installation concerns.

Looking that part up, I'm doubtful that is your problem. I haven't seen one of those need replacement for the 15 years I've been on this forum. Be sure you watch that video in my previous post AND read the posts on that thread. You should use the search box in the upper right corner of the Forum and toggle the "threads" option just to the left of the box to google search. You will get loads of associated threads of information. link to part: lock and associated parts

I'm in South East Alabama. If your not far I may be willing to help. Where in AL are you?

I've owned three roadsters. I've fixed several convertible tops that would not work. I've never heard of a "trunk lid actuator". I assume you mean the trunk latch switch, the switch that tells the CPL/SSM that the trunk is fully closed. They do fail, but no new parts are available, if this is the issue, your next step is to yank from from a junked car.

I do question just who did the diagnosis, anyone I know that understands the system knows that the only source is a junked car.

@Swede334 My post #2 is not correct. It seems the mechanics of the latch hasn't failed, but there is a small switch in that latch that does fail and it is an important part of the top opening and closing operation for the roadsters. Have you tried to order the part from the link I provided you??

Here is a link to the same problem you are experiencing. Read through the entire thread, do not jump to conclusions as the last few post are very important: trunk latch switch

Good Luck!

Are your referring to the Mercedes-Benz 170-820-14-10 Lock Switch?

No, the numbers you referenced in the first thread. 170 750 03 84.
Please be sure to read that thread I linked to in my post #5. The info above is also very informative, but you must read to the last postings to grasp the content.

Thats a lot of info to plunder through. Lol. After going through a checklist to open the top, here are the results:

1. Pre-Check: Vehicle Conditions

· Ignition ON (engine running preferred) - ensures full system voltage. Check

· Parking brake engaged - required for top operation. Check

· Battery voltage stable - weak batteries cause false sensor readings. Check

2. Partition (Cargo Divider) Verification

· Confirm the trunk partition is fully lowered. Check

· Push down until a firm click is felt. Check

· Inspect the partition switch for:

o Broken tabs Check

o Loose hinge Check

o Misalignment Check

· **Top switch blinking

3. Rear Latch Microswitch Check

These switches must report "unlocked" before the pump will run. Did not attempt this step

· Attempt to open the top.

· Listen/feel for the rear latch motors.

· Verify both latches release.

· If one side releases and the other does not:

o Suspect a failed microswitch or latch motor.

4. Front Latch Microswitch Check

· Operate the front header latch.

· Ensure the latch fully rotates to the open position. Check

· Inspect the microswitch for:

o Loose connector Check

o Broken plastic actuator

o Incomplete latch travel Check
** Windows opened

5. Trunk Lid Movement Check

· When the top command is given, the trunk lid should flip backward.

· If the lid does not move:

o Check trunk lid latch sensor. Checked lid latch. See picture for discovery

o Check trunk lid hydraulic struts for resistance. Manually released trunk latch in an attempt to check hydraulic pressure. Unable to move rear window segment to release trunk lid due to pressure.

o Verify trunk lid wiring harness for damage. Check

White, plastic arm not in correct position. Mounting tabs appear broken. This is where I manually release the rear window.

Good Find !!

You just listed some of the reasons I drive coupes.

Hopefully someone with a roadster will chime in and help you correct your problem. Here is a link to the electric lock at the trunk lid latch which must be corrected. Post # 58 gives explanation, but post # 122 has pictures and shows exactly how to complete the process Trunk Lid repair

Where did you get that nonsense? The above is not for the Crossfire, I can assure you of that. Perhaps for the car it was written for, it's a good tutorial, but not our cars.

Please be careful where you go for advice. I spent a LOT of time building a thread where I try to explain, in simple terms, how things work here:
https://www.crossfireforum.org/forum...p-sensors.html

Give it a read. Then read it a second time with the wiring diagrams of the service manual in front of you.

Sorry, I am working LONG hours, I'd like to help people more, but these days, my MOnday thru Friday is really full. Retirement comes in just under four years, I think I will be ready by then.

Short of saying that I was given the checklist by a Chrysler dealership................NOT! It is an accumulation of info discovered from various sources. I'll read your link (twice) and garner the knowledge therein.
As for retirement being the land of bliss and self direction: good freakin' luck with that.
Thanks for your insight.

I performed the "sync maneuver" 5 times and it didn't re-teach the system. Just my luck. As an observation, each time the top was being raised, the windows would lower, the D ring would snap back into place and the top switch would start blinking.
Any and all advice is welcomed.
