not a bad idea. that's 30 grand...alot of scratch. probably do it for like 5 dollars a piece, but how many member would really do it and who are they going to trust the money too. we don't have a real admin since mighty disappeared and he is a thief anyway. i bet you he got a new name and posts under it.

Really thats not a bad idea. We will have to first find a company willing to do it, second find out how many people will be willing to go in on it. I think we should try to get it as a group buy and not just here take my money and make a kit that I will buy later. We also need to figure out who is going to give up their car to the company to make the kit and R&D it. Then we also would need to figure out a kit that would fit most our needs and wants and tell them how much we would be willing to pay for it.

Not a bad idea at all! I've spent around +10k already in those little bitty gadgets in my XFIREX and none of them gave me a boost! A supercharger kit...why not?

Once a vendor is found, I'm sure we could get a local Chrysler dealer to give-up a car for a few weeks. After all they have tons of them collecting dust...

I'm in... If someone wants to start a bank account earmarked for the purpose of R&D for a Turbo Kit, I'll send them a check right now... I think we should be able to get a mfg. to come-up with a kit that would retail in the $5,000 range after they did the R&D and machining.

Everyone I've spoken with (VORTEC etc.) has told me that their R&D and machining for a one-off kit that included turbo headers would be in the $20-30k range. That's why I wasn't willing to have a custom T/C made...

If someone wants to take the bull by the horns on this thing, I'll help as best I can...

Are we looking for a supercharger more than turbo? And is it going to be roots type or centrifugal? Either way I'm in. We should have the person nearest the company collect the money, seems more convenient that way.

Well, S/C's are already available from Kleeman, Renntech, Carlsson... So, that would be a moot point...

I think we're looking for a cost effective bolt-on DIY T/C option... As my mechanic always says, HP costs money, how fast do you want to go?

Ain't that the truth... You want to play your gonna pay!
That is one of my favorites.

my friend works at washington mutual, let me see what i can do about setting up an account that is locked for one purpose only, if that's possible, so trust won't be an issue. we have to get a thread started to see how many people are willing to chip in.

I'm currently talking to a local STS dealer here in Alabama about the possibilities of an STS being fabricated. There also a company called Phamspeed that makes some great front mount set ups. The only problem is they have never messed with Crossfires. I will contact a friend that works at Procharger and see what type of R&D they have done if any. A centrifugal style would be the most cost effective and easiest bolt on application. A front mount turbo would be a LARGE project to under take and would be far from easy to install. Still the bottom line is dollar per HP rate. Paying $95 per HP is not worth it (my .02 cents). Paying like $55 - 65 would be.

I've just read this entire thread all the way through, and i just gotta throw my two cents in here. If you all put this much effort into your own R&D, you could build a custom turbo set up relatively easy. Yes, there is limited space, but there's enough to work with. As long as you have an efficient enough intercooler and a good control over your a/f mixture, you should be plenty able to run 7-9 psi. If you wanted to, you could even twin turbo it with almost less work than single turbo because of the exhaust manifold set up, if you ran 2 Turbonetics T3 super 60 trim turbos and ran 9 psi of boost, they should run cooler(than a single) and spool up relatively quick, and help prevent against detonation. The largest concern aside from detonation, is piping all of this, but with proper planning and a large machine shop (which i'm fortunate enough to have helping me), this is very possible, and for considerable less than your supercharger kit, i'm estimating a conservative $4,500 dollars, although more likely $3,500.

I have about 6 years of supercharger experience although it is with corvettes... www.ndneyes.com/mo I can share some of the knowledge, that for all intents and purposes would translate to the crossfires...

Running 6-8 pounds of boost is about the max you would want to do with 10.5 :1 compression ratio, LT1 vettes are running that straight with a vortech kit.

I'm now running a forged setup at 9.7 CR with water methanol injection which is much easier than an air to air intercooler...

A rule of thumb formula.. 14.7 plus boost / 14.7

so 14.7 + 8 =22.7 /14.7 = 1.54 pressure ratio

You would need to up your fuel by 1.54 either by a larger volume fuel pump modulated off the boost through a MAP or a FMU or increase your injector size...

Corvettes run typically 36- 42 lbs/min ( i'm running 60's)

I'm pumping 18 gallons per hour of water methanol injection...

We generally run an msd BTM which will retard your timing by up to 15 degrees per X amount of boost... ( I program out my timing with a ECM programmer)

There is the fabrication of the mount and pulleys and getting the belts not to slip etc.

Also you need to consider the trans and what it can handle, My 4l60E lasted about 3 years with over 200 runs on it, I had it built to a level 4 pro comp trans...

Also you can get a rough calculation of the engine horsepower as well 215 *1.54 = ~ 332 hp.

An additional couple thousand dollars for like 40 hp is an insane price to pay... in my opinion...

I am also one of the 50 people that has kicked around Supercharging my crossfire as well. But with a 600 hp corvette I really wonder if i need another supercharged car LOL

If anyone has any questions i'm happy to share.

Finally, corvette owner have been running parallel systems to "work around" the ECM programming for many years successfully... It is very important to have the correct tools to tune properly or you are headed for disaster, a fuel pressure gauge and a wideband O2 sensor are a must! Many of the PLX wide band kits have provisions of monitoring multiple devices via rs 232 to a laptop... Which would probably be ideal for the crossfire.

I also use autotap software to log my corvette on hard runs and for tuning purposes...

I'm not sure if they handle the ISO format or not... but I know the PLX will log outboard devices...

I hope this helps...

Mo

Hey, be nice to those of us who opted for the MAN TRANS and gave-up the SC'd AUTO...

The Chrysler tried to talk me into a SRT6, I have 15K miles on my Crossfire, it's paid off, and worth what $25,000 ?

For the additional cost of a SRT6 I'll opt for a ZO6.

If I could have gotten a Z06 for the price I paid for my SRT6 > I'd been all over it. Either way I love this car and would recommend it to anyone who loves the road! Vette's are just a different car in a different game...
