4. get out of the car like you normally would.
Now that's just too damn easy.....thanks.

The lights shouldn't be on. Basically the lights will stay on for a minute as a "courtesy" if they were on when the car was running..

By cycling the key, the car thinks the lights were off when the engine was running so it won't turn the lights back on.
I will have to try this in reverse order and see if it works. I exited my car the other night very disappointed to see that my security lighting did not turn on after I had shut my door. Thanks for the tip.

I can confirm this works. I have HID's in the fog lights, and I park my car in reverse in the garage so both cars are passenger door to passenger door (I can park them closer together and no worry of accidental dings), and at night, the lights would shine into my neighbors house. So to be curtious to him, I do this whenever I park the car after 10PM. I stumbled on this accidently when I left the windows down after parking years ago, turning the key on to close them, and when I closed the door, no lights.

Three things!
1. how can we adjust the time length the lights stay on after turn off at night. Dealer wants $40.00
2. Can we put our cars on running lights while driving, automatically?
3. Can we get headlights to light with the wiper switch on? This is law in NJ. Thanks Ron

I do not know about your first question, but question #2 would be solved by replacing your light switch with the light switch used in the Canadian cars which have to have day time running lights. Using this switch all the lights are on, but you cannot use high beams except to flash.
This would solve your question #3 as the lights would be on anyway. Some Canadian owners would like to swap their light switch with the US light switch, keep an eye out.
