Well Corfire, this thread was started way back in March of '08 and it's still going strong. I installed mine this evening and just like the others, it works great!

What a great idea, and you presented it in such a way that the directions were simple to follow... and the diagrams and photos made it even easier. Thanks so much for taking the time and effort to share your idea with us!

Now I need to do my due diligence in finding a way of amplifying the turn signal beeps- they're impossible to hear when the top is down.

Thanks. Every once in awhile someone finds my thread. Let us know how it turns out. It is a way to get the sound for less than $5. Many have replaced the siren with a later version that gives the tones, but unless the siren has failed, the replacement has become quite expensive. I see where a couple of guys have found it for $60 instead of the going $150+. However, I tried the same source just to have a back-up, because there does seem to be a lot of siren failures? It seems that price was a mistake by the dealer. So, those that got it for $60 got a very special deal?

A word of advice: 85 is + and 86 is -
I had it wrong and it was a pathetic "chirp." Now that I switched it around, it is a nice solid beep. Thanks for the awesome and amazingly simple How-To.

I got this modification done last night. Very easily done. The shrink wrap and wire plus the buzzer ( in Canada, The Source calls it a -0060 or -0059 buzzer) total cost was $14. I used the 0060 part. It was a simple, fun project that was done with 1 cup of coffee! It will deliver lots of fun and an innner smile every time I deploy that sound. Thanks to Corfire and all the contributers to this mod!

Got this mod done today too. went in easy. Used the 273-060 siren, I would like it louder, but it works great so far. Wished I had used 22ga. wire instead of 18ga. Guess I can put siren out side of fuse box to get louder volume out of it. Let all of you know how it goes.

Pin #87 is the only one that would cause the beeps to occur when the turn signals are active, correct?

No problems with #85 / #86 causing beeps while turn signals are active?

Looking to do this mod tonight.... thanks in advance

I just went out and checked my XF to see if it honks the horn when the turnsignals are activated. Mine does not do that. Still works as intended. Mybe something is shorting out on the wires wrapped around the relay spades or at the connector?

Thanks for the quick reply!

Either way i'm going to be doing this tonight..will update with my results.

I assume if I use the # 85 & 86 pins it should be fine.

Thanks,
Eric Henderson

Installed on my '05 N/A Coupe

Sounds great, took virtually no time at all.

Really, it took longer for the guy at Radio Shack to find the part than for me to install it, but what are you going to do...

Thanks again EVERYONE.

This rocks.

Glad you found it and got it going. As a newbie, you must be a search hound, finding my mod so quick! There alot of good info on here, but some of it is hidden very deep.

Hi guys,

I'm writing from Germany and I want to install also the siren.

But the problem is, Radioshack is only in the US.

So what would you suggest?

Is this item also possible?

Piezo-Summer KPI-Serie Geräusch-Entwicklung: 85 dB 12 V/DC Stromaufnahme: 15 mA 3.7 ± 0.5 kHz im Conrad Online Shop

85db
3700 Hz
15ma
12 V

Thank you for your help!

btw:
I've been to the US last year - I forgot to visit a radioshack store...

and the rental car (Dodge Journey) has also this kind of siren when you lock/unlock the car.

Another question:

Is the sound of the siren, when you lock the car, always the same?
Dodge, Chrysler etc.

I mean the sirens which are installed from factory

check:
that device sounds like it would work. The one I got from Radio Shack was not very loud, so I mounted it with double sided tape on the outside of the fuse box. Not too loud, but just right. Has been on the car for close to 1 year. No problem ,works fine.
