And replacing it instead of "fixing it" is what this sounds like.. so you can play the same game a 3rd time unless you sell it?

If you searched the forum you would find how to fix this problem for absolutely no cost and be assured that you would never have the problem again. It does not get much better than that these days.

The part you have changed is the problem, modify it for no cost and be happy.
Go here for the cheap and permanent solution.
No need to buy another one.

Every body that had this problem with the Ignition PLEASE do this ... go to HTTP://WWW.SAFERCAR.GOV and make a complain . This needs to be a recall. If they have so many complains this will be fix t by Chrysler for free .

Too late for this, three complaints so far? They'll put it down to wear.
Would you want the dealer to touch your car anyway and put in another faulty part?

Yea, they'll put in another of their deffectively engineered assemblies. No thanks - I fixed mine in 90 minutes for free and I'm mechanically incompetent!

Your's is not "frozen" yet, the fix is easy. Go follow the procedure and you won't need to be so careful, or print the fix and pay some local garage about $150 to fix it for you!

And stop being silly. Sanford.

Or come to the Dragon this weekend and we'll fix it for you - if it's raining and we can't ZOOM ZOOM!

Thought that just separated the men from the boys?

Consider it drift practice! That's big in CA isn't it?

just a couple of notes about the fix posted here, when i did this project, it was easier for me to remove the 10mm bolt in the clamp with a wrench as opposed to a socket. Also, make sure you re-install your transponder ring BEFORE you try to start the car, or it will definately send you into a panic!! if you try to start th car without this ring in place, it may start the first time, but then die, or not start at all! Also, if you are repairing the key switch you already have instead of buying a new one, make sure you remove the tumblers, or your locking pin will NOT push in t release your assembly. Just a couple of things i wanted to share with the community. Happy motoring, and enjoy not having to wory about your key not turning!!!

Do you follow these same directions when the steering wheel is into place? My ignition switch was just being sticky in the winter but when it was amazingly hot outside it decided not to turn at all. As I was turning the steering wheel slightly back and forth and trying to turn the key simultaneously it totally locked up the steering wheel. Thank you in advance for any help.

Hi girlcrushcar

well , it was a mistake that i followed the instruction in the forum to the letter , everything is great in the instructions but no one told my that the ignition is two parts (the black cylinder key and the ignition where the black cylinder goes into)

my wheel was luck and the key was not turning (and here is the missing part) i just needed the black cylinder key (the document said if the key is not turning you have to drill the pin ) ) after drilling and taking everything out i notice that the problem was on the black cylinder means that i should order a new key 270$ , but by drilling i damaged the ignition and by the way the ignition in the dealer cost 520$ but in Mercedes 180$

the best is to check the Cylinder black key part and then the ignition if you need any help let me know i did the fix my self

and thanks for the replay

Hi Moham_us,

Thanks for the heads up. My boyfriend is doing the repair and just left to pick up his Dremel tool from his friend. So now I want to know what is the best step by step way to do this where I do not have to take my car to the dealership and pay excessive amounts of money. He was trying to do this where we can use the same ignition switch and everything. I am confused and trying to gather all the information on this repair but it makes me very apprehensive to know that my boyfriend might have to use a drill on my baby. All of your knowledge is helpful and appreciated.

I spray some WD 40 in the ignition switch every few month since I first heard about this problem back in late 04. I never had a problem with a sticky switch..
