Well the transponder is plugged in correctly and does not look damaged so is it possible it is just not lined up correctly? The guide says to have the wire end on the same side as the flat part of the key tumbler. When I go to start the car there is an engagement of an immediate kill switch to the car. Key fob is able to lock and unlock doors, so it must be a transponder issue not transmitter or key itself

I lined the transponder up correctly according to the guide and still no luck. Any other suggestions?

I get an error not found when i try and open them.

Thanks, Rusty

PDF works fine for me. Try right clicking the link and doing "Save As" to see if you can open it in another PDF reader.

I tried the URL It takes me to a not found page on the forum. Seems I just can't get any illustrations of the "fix"
Thanks, Rusty

Then you have a browser / firewall issue. I clicked the above link and the PDF opened just fine.

I am new to the forum and just got my crossfire, but already have problems with the key not wanting to turn, so far has not locked up completely. I have the pdf just want to make sure that the spring and pin that you remove at the end of the pdf are the parts that are causing this issue? And I don't need to buy any new parts if I follow the pdf instructions? I don't want to mess it up and have to pay to have it fixed.

The pin & spring are what is removed to solve the problem. No new parts needed. If taken to the dealer for fix they will charge you $300 to replace the switch which will eventually have the same problem later on. Removing the pin & spring is a permanent fix and doesn't affect any steering lock. The fix has been well tested by many members and is totally safe. Has been done on both of my XFs.

I also read about others who were finally unable to turn the key at all, requiring a tow to the dealer and a bill for $1500.00 or more to fix. I want to thank Crossbow 39 for his nice thread on how to do this. I am a visual guy and thought I would take pictures and post a thread to help others. I also learned a few tips which may help others.

1.) Disconnect the negative battery terminal.

2.) Remove the fuse panel access door to the left of the steering wheel, in the door jam area.

3.) Remove the air vent above the headlight switch. It just pops out.

4.) Remove the lower trim panels. First remove the "U" shaped panel below the steering wheel (one screw). This gives you access to 2 hidden screws which need to be removed.

UPDATE
NEWEST PDF FILE AS OF JUNE 1 , 2013
The new PDF is version 5

Thank you very much for putting this clear explanation together. Success in my parking lot at work last night after the key wouldn't turn for me the day before ...!

Thanks!

The man to thank for this fix is Rekcah, he is no longer on the forum. The post was started by drhrsh but he erased the pics and the instructions to do the fix were redone and done better by Rekcah.
Rekcahs post should be moved up to the first post, his work on it has saved thousands of dollars for members here and he should get the thanks due him.
If this is possible it should be done.

Turn the steering wheel fully to the left and fully to the right and then Center it, it resets this way after disconnecting the battery.

I wanted to say thank you, thank you and again thank you for this thread. It has saved me a lot of headache and money. My ignition locked up on about 5 miles away from home at a gas station. Got it towed home and read everything in the thread. It helped tremendously. Again, thank you.

Same thing here, 4 1/2 years and 70,000 miles ago mine locked up at a gas station. $90 tow home and 1 1/2 hours and it was fixed.
