Rear hatch rubber stops rubbing off paint?
My rear hatch is doing that rattling/popping noise (drives me INSANE!) and I've now noticed that the two rubber stops on either side are rubbing the paint off. Anyone else have this? Am I going to have to have my car repainted back there now??? I'm still under warranty...
Wrap electrical tape around the latch catch and that will fix the rattle. I wouldn't worry about the bit of paint but if you want, just get some touch-up paint.
Or, you can take it to the dealer and they'll replace the latch for free. But you'll have to leave it with them

Mine had the same issue. I just touched it up and put a piece of electrical tape on each side as long as the rubber stop to prevent any more paint from being removed.

I looked in vain for some of that extra-thick clear tape that is used to prevent paint from rubbing off. I ended up just putting strips of celophane tape on the body where the rubber stops hit. I have to replace it every now and again, but it keeps the paint from taking the brunt off the force from the rubber stops.

As stated previously, add strips (3-4) to the "U" shaped catch and the rattles should go away. A secondary solution is the use a Torx screw driver and adjust the rubber stops lower.
Good Luck,

I put a piece of self stick velco in the exact places where it rests on the body. No noise and no unsightly rub marks. About every 6 mos. I replace it.
I will try to get pics later. James

A good independent hardware sells anti slip step tread by the foot. You have a choice of textured rubber or sand grit. Both are for exterior use with peel off backing. Buy the rubber version. The adhesive treads thickness will also help with the hatch rattle. The sand texture will start wearing your rubber block stop.Trim to fit with rounded edges. Place on the painted contact area and it will look factory. Squirrel Crusher
What were they thinking when they made that liftgate pad, it's as hard as a brick. I stuck some black rubber roof membrane on my paint. Has anyone thought of facing the pad with silicone, I may try and see if it sticks.
