valve cover gasket(s) failed
Sounds like you got a good deal.
Just got to Florida and my Son who is a certified marine tech on high performance engines took a look at the job done by the Chrysler dealer. He noted there was sealer ( he called it something else) all around the valve cover and it was basically a sloppy job. He really couldnd't tell if the valve cover had been removed at all. There was black goop on the hoses, smeared around the valve cover like an amateur caulking a bathtub. Add to that the $100 air filters we paid for, the fact we had to take it back again because it kept wanting to die ( I discovered the engine cover was only partially in place to the point I could lift it a bout 4 inches) after I snapped it in place the stalling went away, and I know I'll get shot for this on the web site but I'm about to go back to Ford. At least their dang dealerships aren't dropping like flies where I live.

The dealer did take advantage of you. As noted, K&Ns are about $35-40 each but I found this site (doing a simple search on the OEM part number) and found Frams for less than $11/each. They might even be stocked, or available special order, from your local auto parts store. BTW, the OEMs filters are Mann with a M-B part number A112-094-03-04. The Mann part number may be C2861. Replacement is a simple matter of lifting off the silver engine cover and carefully removing the 6 (8?) screws on each side to get at the filter. It's a good opportunity to do some additional engine cleaning while everything is more exposed. I found another site that cross referenced the Mann number to a Fram CA9689. The vehicle takes two (2) filters.

They showed me that one of the valve covers been leaking for some time, and one on other side just starting too.
Car only has 27,000 miles, treat it like a baby, really surprised this happened. Thought the mercedes engine was supposed to be bullet proof.
Anyway;
Any one else have this problem?
I assume it's under warranty, is this a big repair?
Anyone else have this problem?
Thanks!!
