Automatic Transmission Issues
We have been having automatic transmissions issues. First the car stuttered from 1st to 2nd. They put some new part in. The stutter went away but then the car would get stuck in 1st every now and then. Then the engine light started coming on. The first time they put in a flash. Then 2 weeks later the engine light came back on. This time they said the code pointed to the transmission. So we seem to either get stuck in 1st or have the engine light come regularly. Any have this issue or seen this issue? Thanks.
You may want to look at the thread concerning a "code that doesn't exist." Someone mentioned the transmission having a control unit that is prone to failure. Not sure if this is the problem, but you never know. Hope this helps. Good luck.

My Roadster kept "stuttering" also and then it just quit running. They kept it for over two weeks and just couldn't figure out what was wrong. I asked about the transmission several times but they kept saying that the computer said it was something else. I don't even remember how many things they tried but finally they pulled the pan and found metal shavings in the transmission fluid. They put a new transmission in last October and it has been fine ever since. It was kind of ugly for a few weeks but I still just love that little girl!

I just had a problem with my Crossfire. It wouldn't shift out of first gear. First there was a loud clunking noise when I went from reverse to drive. Then I noticed a square instead of a "D" to indicate it was in "drive" and the check engine light was on. I crawled home with it and called for roadside assistance. I had it flat-bedded to the dealer. This was on April 26. The next day the Chrysler dealer told me there was a problem with the computer module that tells the car to "shift." They ordered the part but warned me it was either a one or two part repair job and they wouldn't know if the second part was needed until the first part was done. The part was on back order because the car is a 2005 and they said "Chrysler just isn't making alot of parts for a new car." Can you believe this? The part finally came in the following week and they put it in. On May 6th they told me the car was fixed and they just wanted to road test it. I arranged to pick it up the next day on a Saturday. I got the car and my husband drove it home while I went elsewhere with his truck. When I got home he said "you're not gonna be happy...the check engine light is on again and the car is not shifting." I had the car flat-bedded to the dealer again on Monday May 9. At this point they told me they did everything Chrysler told them to do (both parts of the repair) and they were waiting for advice. After alot of arguing with them during the week they called me on Thursday and said they fixed the problem. It was not the computer module after all but rather a loose connection to the shifter or something like that in the dashboard. I picked the car up yesterday and it seems to be fixed. They put 80 miles on it road testing the car and didn't bother to replace the gas, either. All in all they had the car 17 days.
What was really amazing about the whole ordeal is when I called Chrysler for roadside assistance/tow. After giving all my information, the guy said to me "is this a 4-wheel drive or SUV?" I said 'IT IS A SPORTS CAR...IS THIS CHRYSLER ON THE PHONE?" He said to me "I don't have any idea what a Crossfire is." DUH!!

Strangest problem I have had so far with the automagic in my SRT6 has been that on three separate occasions and under different load/gear conditions, the car has 'clunked' and gone out of gear while still displaying a "D" on the dash display.
It was easily corrected by simply moving to the shoulder, stopping, putting it in park for a second or two and then putting it back in drive.
This is intermittent enough that I refuse to take it to the dealer. If the transmission blows it's under warranty.
I think I will start buying some coffee and doughnuts for my local MB techs for a few weeks and see if I can 'nudge' some secret info on the SLK automatic from them.

I notice in mine that every once in a while when I get on it, it will lock in first and not shift until I completely let off and just about stop moving. Wonder if this is a hint of problems to come?
