Default Where to buy Spring Pads/Shims

I have exhausted (yeah, wrong forum!) the search function and have come up blank on where to buy the spring pads/shims one needs to finish a "Perfect" Eibach lowering install.

Except, of course, the local MB dealer. My "local" MB dealer is ~ 65 miles down the pike.

Any help here folks?

What size are you looking for? I have a set of front and a couple sets of rear spring pads in the garage. I am going to swap the current rear pads for taller ones as I still get some rubbing with the new taller tire/wheel combo in back... I will check what I have when I get out there later...

Forgot, I get mine at the MB dealer... you could try oediscountparts.com...

oediscountparts.com has them listed at $4.31 and order by thickness. Here is a list of the MB part numbers.....

Max, this may seem like a no-brainer, but be sure to find out which ones you're running first, and gauge from that as to what to order.

My old Limited had 3-dots front, 1-dot rear from the factory.

I have yet to see two cars with the same setup... Steve's were different, as were Jason's, as were Nick's...

So, if you already have 2's in the rear, going up to the max will only gain you ~.5"...

Add the desired lift in MM to your existing pad's thickess to nail the desired ride height.

OK. I'll tell you my lifes' story:

I read myself BLIND re-reading and re-reading and re-reading all of the posts/threads about "spring pads" and "Eibach" and "lowering" and have yet to find a post with actual parts used and the final lowered height after all is done. I realize, now, that it's a toss-up as to which pads any given Crossfire might have been delivered with. Maybe it has something to do with which STATE (hot or cold) it was delivered to. Kinda' like the Roadster tops?

I'm a cheap bastardo and I only want to do this once.

I'm also a fat bastardo and don't want the car to look like it was through a crusher when my big butt, and my sons' bigger butt is in it. (Together we are well over MAX GVW for the Crossfire).

If I assume I have 2 in front and 3 in back, I must then:

go with 5 dot in front as per TVT "Best Combo" recommendation. Right? To prevent rubbing. Right? This will provide ~ 1/2" drop in the front? Right?

And to offset my girth, I go with 4 dot in the back, it will lower it 1.3" - 1 dot (4 mm/ .156") or about 1.144"". Right? If I'm off by a dot, I can live with that.

As it sits right now, with a full tank of gas and no luggage/people in it I have ~2.75" from the lip to the top of the rear tires.

So, it's NOT a no-brainer. I have one and it HURTS!

Recommendations are welcome and solicited. I PM'ed 32Krazy! with questions. But just a short while ago and haven't heard back yet.

MikeR, What Make/Model/Year do you enter to find these? I only get one part selected with no thickness options ('05 Crossfire). Aaarrrgggghhhhh! I consider myself really good at online shopping and ferreting out stuff I want but this is maddening!

So, that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

And, just to make it all crystal clear: I'm running a 19/20 stagger with 235's in front and 275's in back. OEM spacing and diameter (running height).

I made a pair of adjustable camber arms for the rear and will buy the "Collision Repair" bolts for the front.

Help me. please? Suicide is the next option and I don't want the boy to get this car! Unless I can take it with me...

Max, I hate to say it, but I do not think there is a way to only do it once without buying a lot of superfluous parts, we had mine apart three times before it was said and done.

No easy answers on this, my friend, especially trying to pull it into alignment after the lowering. I have one side, yes just one, that I can not pull into alignment even with the camber bolts for the front, and I think I am going to have to pop $400 for the kmac kit with bushings.

Of everything I have done to the car, lowering properly has been the only one to really test my patience.

Part numbers:

210 321 01 84 5mm
210 321 02 84 9mm
210 321 03 84 13mm
210 321 04 84 17mm
210 321 05 84 21mm

I still have a few pads at home if you want to me to look for you, but my originals are dot5, so not a lot of help there...

Good luck, feel free to call with any questions.

John,

from what I can tell, 5 dots in front are what is needed regardless of what is in there now:

https://www.crossfireforum.org/forum...tml#post386524

And our friend from Puerto Rico says 1 dot in back gives ~ 1 1/2" drop in the rear:

https://www.crossfireforum.org/forum...ring-pads.html (Post #3)

If this thing is on a lift, can I reach up in there and feel the dots? To determine what I have?

Oh, and I just ordered the proper coil spring compressor. It will be here in ~ a week.

When I'm done, I will offer it for loan to those who need it!

The rear of the car is easy to do even without a spring compressor. It's the front you only want to do once. I went with the dot 5 and eibach's in the front (I got 1/2" drop) and still had a little rubbing while turning and backing up. You can coax the front fender liner into a slightly different shape if necessary. So I'd do the dot 5 for the front no matter what. With the dot 1's in the rear I got 1 1/2" drop. The rear is up to you. I'd keep a little rake and stay with the stock pads that are not always but usually dot 3. My front camber didn't change after the drop but the rear was at -2.5º. The Eibach's ride sweet on the street. I'm on K&W's now.

Max, don't fret my friend.

I'll be jumping into the fray soon as well... Looking into the H&R cup kit (Touring) for mine... should net a ~35mm drop in the front, 40mm in the rear. My only concern is the ride harshness, as the five (or so) folks to spring for this kit in the past have all complained of the same thing. Interestingly enough, none of them mention playing around with spring pads, and only one mentioned cutting the bump-stops.

H&R makes a great spring, and the dampers included in the kit are "performance matched" to the springs. $679 for the kit, still cheaper than Eibach/Koni and perhaps a firmer spring. Speaking of NO data, spring rates are AWOL and I haven't seen definitive answers on that.

Cutting springs is an option, but I'd really like to avoid that route on the SRT as the rate can vary ever-so-slightly between all four corners when you "eyeball" the cut. Each corner on my white one had it's own unique ride height... only off by ~2mm, give or take, but off nonetheless. Not to mention, it rode like hell.

For this reason alone, I'm considering the replacement springs. Plus I have the ability to return it to stock in the unlikely even of a sale.

Vogltand is an option for me, but strangely they aren't listed on their site any longer, and the ebay auctions for Vogtlands are a thing of the past.

Willing to give the touring cup kit a shot, if for no other reason than to provide the community with decent research.

"And backing up"? What front tire/wheels are you running?

And thanks to all for responding!

At the time I was using Michelin Pilot Sport Cups 235/40/18 on the stock rims. 4 mm taller than stock. I just refrained from turning sharply while backing up. In the rear I had 265/35/19's on the stock rim with no rubbing that I remember. 4 mm taller than stock.

I'm currently running 245/35/18's on a 9" rim and 30 offset on the front with the same amount of rubbing. I have 285/35/18's on 10" rims with a 25 mm offset and have some rubbing on the inner fender well .... that I ignore.

I sold my Eibachs and gave away my spring pads in april. Now I'm riding on K&W Variant II. My car sits at 5" from the ground to the rocker panel just behind the front wheel and 5 1/8" at the rocker panel in front of the rear wheel.

Max,
The Aero came with 2 dot pads in front and 1 dot pads in back... when I lowered it with Eibachs and Konis it was fine with stock SRT wheels... then I got the AMG 810's. 18x8.5 fronts with 235/40 Kumho Ecsta's and 19x9.5 rears with 285/35 Kumho's. I get a little rubbing in front with full tight turns. I was getting rubbing in the rear when I hit bumps at speed so I went full stiff on the Koni's and put 3 dot pads in back.... I still get a little rub on sharp bumps so I am going to put the 4 dot pads in back... If I was using a 285/30 profile in back I would not have had to change most likely... the 35 profile is 26.8" tall versus 26" for stock... but I wanted the sidewall for ride comfort.... everything is a compromise...

Cancel your order for the spring compressors.... I have them in the Miller tool box.....

Max, let me know if you want the 5 dots and I can send them your way, I still need you to do some SS pieces for me before show season this year anyway

Jon I will be interested to see your results with the cup kit, as I thought about going that way. Think I am going to try konis with the cut SRT and see where I am...

How was your coil over install? Did you have to modify anything? Do they cause any problems with your 10" wheels?

No problem at all. I did the rears myself. My front A-arm bushings were shot so I had a shop replace them and install the fronts for me. The K&W's are just springs and shocks with an adjustable spring perch that installs where the spring pads sit.

Do they easily adjust to lower specific heights as advirtised? Did you have to drill or modify your xfire to install them where the spring pad sits? I figured they would bolt to the factory shock mount tower.

Adjusting them is a pain. You have to compress the spring or take the suspension apart. The perch sits on top in the spring tower and you can hardly see it let along adjust it. But once you get it where you like it, you won't be touching it again. Mine have been installed for about a year now. Most people would find them too stiff for day to day and I find them a little tame for racing. However, they made my car a lot faster and easier to drive faster.
