Default My beautiful little Crossfire HIT.

I was stopped at a red light, and out of no where a 1995 Ford Crown Vic. spun out of control in the rain and slammed into the drivers side of my precious 2005 Crossfire.
I was almost brought to tears.
And of course the guy didn't have insurance, along with the fact he didn't know how to drive in the rain.
The Crossfire took a very hard hit, but I was surprised at how well it held up. It knocked my car into the next lane. This little Crossfire is tough, and my most favorite car of all time.
From the photos it does not look that bad..............Damage = need a new door, front and rear panels, 2 new wheels.
I had a shoulder injury, but drove the car home after that. Still runs like a champ.
Only love for my Crossfire.

Yeah I got Tboned by a stupid texter. They will probably total your car. Mine was totaled but it wasn't drivable through. They're tough little cars for sure. My favorite as well. Everywhere I go it always gets thumbs up and wow what a pretty car.

If the door will open and close the sheet metal looks like it might be repairable.

Alabama requires minimal liability insurance to legally drive a car.
( emphasis on 'legally'. I'd estimate that maybe 50% in my county have ANY insurance at all )

Yes we are also required to have insurance here in Florida. And the guy got a ticket for not having insurance and an additional ticket for failure to use due care. What the penalties are I don't know.
Of course my insurance will cover it, less deductible. My insurance is also aggressively seeking any avenue they can pursue to get the money out of him. Thats how they roll.

I have in the past advocated seizure of a vehicle driven by someone who does not have insurance. After a couple of very expensive fines paid and bailouts of cars, I bet insurance policies would increase dramatically. Goes along with the suggestion of a driver on drugs or drunk, sieze the car. Please don't whine about the poor guy who loaned his/her car to a friend and it isn't fair and blah blah... Sieze the car and after the word gets out, the people driving most likely will have insurance, and the drunks will lose all their friends and will be walking on the side of the road. Just think of ALL that revenue all those municipalities could realize!

Sorry to hear!! That sure sucks. Where in Florida do you live? I live in the St. Pete area and it amazes me how many people still don't have insurance even though it is required by law. Maybe the penalties need to be a little steeper than a cheap ticket! Not sure, but obviously it sucks that this guy hit you. Obviously the fact that he doesn't have money to afford insurance means you probably won't get much out of that guy either way.
I know an amazing body shop in the St. Petersburg area who is skilled working with and on Crossfires. In case you are close by that would probably be the place to go to see what need replacing and what can be fixed (i.e. door) . Best of luck and glad you didn't get injured badly in the accident. YOUR well being is the most important part no matter how much you love your car

Best of luck! I am curious as to what the insurance will tell you. Does that damage actually count as totaled? I would not be surprised as our cars are quick to ring up enough money in repairs to warrant a salvage (as far as the insurance goes).
Keep us posted!

Keep us posted!

Well I took the car to Chrysler for an estimate for my own benefit and to compare it to my insurance company estimate, which has not been done yet.
Chrysler estimated the Parts and Labor at a total of $8795 dollars.
Which is about what I paid for the car. 22k miles on the odometer when I bought it. Now has a little over 25k on the odometer, not even broken in yet.

WOW! I hope they don't total it on you.

Sorry to hear all of this. Unfortunately, it appears a total loss may be in your future. With that said, you could still get the car fixed. Best of luck with all of this.

You are living my nightmare. I hope it works out for you. Michigan has no-fault and the only time I was hit there was a process to follow to recover my deductible from the at-fault driver. Of course, he had insurance. One of the 75% in Michigan who does. It's just too easy to buy insurance a month at a time and then stop paying after the car is registered. I do not carry comprehensive and collision after a car is 8-10 years old because it is not cost effective. Even though my XFs are almost pristine and relatively low mileage, the insurance company goes by comparables and would pay me dog$hit. So I pocket the $400/year times five vehicles and "self insure".

What price do insurance companies go by when they establish the value of our cars? NADA? Kelley Blue Book? If an insurance company declares a total loss does that mean I can either take the money and run but lose my car or I pay for the repair out of pocket but keep my vehicle? In the latter case, wouldn't that affect my insurance as technically they are now insuring a rebuilt-title as the car has been deemed as totaled (and therefore might choose not to insure the vehicle anymore in respect to collision insurance)?

If the insurance tells me my car is worth X amount of dollars, what can be done to argue the amount? Can I request for the insurance to find me a comparable Crossfire for that price, I can then purchase with the money they award me for my totaled vehicle?

To the op: I hate to say this but I honestly think your insurance will deem this a total loss. This sucks! Damage didn't look nearly as bad but I guess it's easy to ring up thousands of dollars in repair bills even in fender benders! Hoping for the best for you!!!

They may consider your car totaled. Sorry to hear about your car. Glad you're fine.

Check with your insurance company regarding their own policy about using only non-oem parts to fix your car. Most insurance companies are like that, unless you specifically state that you want only oem parts for repair when signing up with your choice of insurance company.
