Stock navigation: cannot download almanacs
Just received and installed a stock navigation to use with my Solisto unit--works flawlessly, except I cannot get the almanacs to download for the navigation function. I positioned the antenna as deeply in the dash as my hands would allow--approximately eight inches from the vents.
I'm currently parked in a Publix parking lot and I cannot get the GPS Wait indicator to budge. Please help!

This is the Nav radio manual.
Almanacs? WTF is that?
Was it cloudy out, any tall buildings near by? Any error message? and best if car sits parked while downloading. Does it show it has acquired a sat?

Yea, it can't download the almanacs unless it first has reception.
Any chance you got your hands on a bad antenna?
(Dave, almanacs are charts of where the birds are - the receiver usually collects several sets of them and then, when that is done, it uses them to do the math to determine where it is based on the signals from the birds. I'm not sure of just what data rate the almanacs and position data come down at, but the newer the receiver, the faster it gets a position, I assume due to faster uP's and better algorithms in the receiver.)

No tall buildings, no error messages, just GPS WAIT and all the credentials were zero'd out. There was heavy cloud cover, though, so that may be the issue. I will try again this afternoon and see what happens. I assume the antenna that was sent with the unit is new--let's hope it's not faulty. And I assume the placement is OK. It is well into the dash, right beneath the windshield.

As I said in my PM the unit took quite some time, maybe an hour or so and I was on my way home from bluecoupes when it instructed me to put the CD in for the first time. I did start to acquire satellites when I was stationary at bluecoupes house though. I think you have to be moving for it to get its relative position on the earth though before putting the CD in for the first time.
My bet is the cloud cover, if it was a bad antenna you would get an error message. Nothing to do with the speed sensor wire however the nav will not be accurate when moving only when stopped. The reverse sensor wire is not required for it to work in forward motion the speed sensor wire is.
You may have the gps antenna too far back the installation instructions show it on top of the vents.
