By heating and then letting it cool slowly it softens the copper, its then able to conform to irregularities and generally resurfacing wouldn't be necessary.

I just found out where the 5th O ring goes. The oil filter cap unscrews from the shaft that the filter goes on. If you unscrew it you will see it. I was also told that if the shaft isn't loose. Leave it alone. Don't replace the O ring if the shaft isn't loose.

Woooooooo Hooooooooo, so the final answer is; It is for the cap/shaft where it screws together (but don't replace if it is not loose)...

Mucho-appreciatio!

GREAT FIND!

they are aluminum
Yep, same kind I purchased from the dealership. I purchased a bag of 10 so we're good for awhile...replaced every time I do an oil change.

I never have for 11 years / 90,000 miles (probably about 18 oil changes)

I wonder how you get at that O-ring, I twisted and pulled on the unit and never got it to budge. I never overdid the force applied as I did not want to break it as some have done.

I don't think so.....millions of Crossfire oil changes have probably occurred before members ASCHRAGER & VALK (above) figured out where the 5th O ring would go .....if needed.....
