Before or after I get the turbo installed?

I'm a bigger fan of hitting a drag strip, lest we all be hypocrites and get nailed like bionic did.

Probably ought to make it soon since the casio's arent hitting real good right now..otherwise I'd say it'd be a turbo race..lol. Wife just doesn't see the need for a turbo when she's already got a 30,000 dollar suv.. LOL.

I passed a couple of cars at a buck ten, when lo' and behold, there sat a full grown on the side of the road. I wasn't aware he was a highway patrolman till I went by him at eighty. I always slow for breakdowns. Well, he pulled me over and asked me that age old question. Do you know why I pulled you over? I of course turned turned immediately into Forest Gump. No sir, I have no idea. I was just running. He said that I was doing 108, held at 108 for awhile then slowed to 80. I then quickly turned into the rain man. No sir, I'm a very good driver. I was doing 70 then slowed to 60 when I saw a car on the side broke down. I'm a very good driver... Well your speedometer must be off, have you changed tire sizes recently. I beamed, (Thanks Rudy), that yes I had. He went back to his cruiser, came back with the dreaded manilla 4X10 card I have become much to familiar with. He told me he was cutting me a break due to my having a CDL. I recieved a ticket for, (drum roll please), 65 in a 55 Mph zone. He told me I should check my speedometer sometime, wear your seatbelt, and have a good day. My only complaint would be the cost of $143.00 for ten over. It seems like a lot. But tons better than what I damn well deserved!!!
Why complain about the cost when in reality it could have been much worse. I would be thanking my lucky stars that is all I got.

If he truly slowed, he can fight it. Chris -- did she abandon the car she had initially pulled over to chase him down for an offense this simple? Seems odd to me.[/quote]

From the point I passed her position... to the point she had me pulled over was about 1/2 mile or less....she truly must have "punched it" to catch someone going about 65 mph in that short of distance. I assume she had finished with that guy.

Where's Vegaslegal when you need him?

Vegas, I just noticed on the ticket that in the heat of the moment when she asked for my driver's license & insurance info....I must have pulled out Wilma's proof of insurance instead of Fred's. So on the ticket is the wrong VIN # & year of XF.......should I point out this incorrect info when it goes to trial? Or blame the citation on my wife since she was driving the vehicle on the citation the day of the alleged infraction?

Did you miss the next sentence?

I said... My only complaint would be the cost of $143.00 for ten over. It seems like a lot. But tons better than what I damn well deserved!!!
My point was if I had truly only been doing 65 in a 55 that it seemed a pretty stiff fine. Kansas in recent years doubled their court costs and raised fine amounts. Not do to non compliance, but to line the states pocket.

Would you want a big truck 2 seconds behind you. As long as your anticipatory driving style works, why not? We indeed live by different rules. But a 2 second rule in a car is insane. You should have at least one car length for every 10Mph. That's six and a half at sixty five. When your driving to work tomorrow try it. If a car gets between you and is going faster than you or the six second car your behind cover the brake and let him go. You don't have to slow down as long as he is going to out pace you both. I'm telling you, if you follow these rules you will have a much more pleasant/ less stressful trip.

You initially said you crowd the "left lane". All the interstates around here tell the trucks to use the two right lanes. Left lane = fast lane. If you're crowding that lane, you're crowding the cars that are supposed to be there. As said earlier, it all comes down to common sense, and if you CAN make room for the HP, do it.
I think I did a good enough job clarifying my intent. Regardless, he wasn't sure he did, or tried to do anything to aid the situation. The ticket will surely remind him in the future. And so far I've yet to see him complain about my post. Methinks thou dost protest to much.

As for being "argumentative" that's not the case. I just don't like you.
I think your just swell too.

Chris...the citation is discretionary...it is her call on whether she thought you slowed enough...Here in Indiana, you must slow to 45 mph if you can't get over. You can fight it in court since it is discretionary, but you had better have a clean record just in case you get the wrong judge. She must have seen something she didn't like, most won't do anything unless you are moving too fast or too close...good luck either way...Me, I am old school, if you got too close to me, I would have thrown something at your car...lol

Oh, and small mistakes on the citation usually won't have any affect on the citation....

65 MPH=95 FPS. 95 feet is ~ 3 car lengths (conservative me) per second.

Rush, as much as it pains me to admit this-you are correct, sir. That's about 1 second per 10 MPH. It is the way I was taught in Wisconsin 35 years ago and still holds true to this day. Even considering that the average car today will stop in 60% of the distance ANY car of that era could!

And one MUST NOT forget the reaction time (gas to brake) of 1 second. Many do.

95' = 3 car lengths? That's VERY conservative, haha.

@ 70mph, you travel 205.33 feet in two seconds. Given the average car in America is ~18' (based on parking spaces... some more, some less) that's over eleven car-lengths between you and the car in front of you.

If staying back seven seconds (718 feet, or 40 car-lengths) makes you feel safe, by all means go for it. All I ask, is that you exercise such caution in the right lane. I'll be passing by on the left.

The safest situation is clear & simple: don't drive at all.

This also solves the problem of tickets.

Assuming you are not on autopilot and half asleep, in which case 5 or 6 seconds is about right.

Chris did you get the ticket in Kansas? My mom and dad were driving through Kansas two months ago and were pulled over because the length of their fifth wheeler and boat were over 65'. It was like a $120 fine and $80 court costs. They could not simply just pay the fine, but had to pay the court costs as well even though they would not go to court. It is just extra extortion by the government.

One of these mornings I will drive past the same trooper at the same speed with my crossfire and you will see what happens.

I will say doing 50+ over the limit rules out "cop magnet" in that situation but our cars are cop magnets.

The fact is this.... our cars attract attention. Cops don't mean to single us out but they do because our cars are very different and attract attention.
Same here I set my cruise the same on all of our vehicles and I have only got tickets in the Xfire. I drive the same way, same speed 5 days a week and about every 8 months get pulled over in the xfire but never in the JEEP, Focus or motorcycle. Luckily I have been able to joke my way out of all but 2 of them.

The only other ticket I have got in the last 5 years is for riding a motorcycle with flip-flops on...

I think a Crossfire from the front is rather inconspicuous to a cop with a radar gun, looks like a Sebring and other makes as well, from the side - not so much.

I retraced my route on I-70 today...using the trip meter.

A peak (no one can see over the peak.....NO ONE!) occurs at (speed limit is 70 mph) 0.0 miles

I was stopped with my window down at 0.6 miles.

So the distance from first possible human sighting of the trooper to complete stop = 0.6 miles.

I first noticed the cop 20-30 feet off my bumper at maybe 0.4 miles from the 0.0 point of first possible sighting.

I was going 60 or less when I passed the trooper (at a dead stop) & then maybe got back up to 65 before she magically appeared 20-30 feet off my bumper.

I've had a couple of semesters of calculus....
at 60 mph a car travels 1 mile/minute. If she was located at the 0.3 mile midpoint (dead stop) ....& was on my bumper at 0.4 or 0.5 & I was at a dead stop at 0.6....then, (Holy Christ!)-

So at 60 it would have taken me 12 seconds to travel from her 0.3 to her being on my bumper at the 0.5 mark...can you imagine the thrill of acceleration she must have experienced .....she must have gone from 0 to 100-120 in Bugatti like time.

& she thinks I did something to endanger her life???

I'm going with my son this afternoon to make a video to prove the topography & distances.

I have to show up in court on Jan 20th, 2012 at 9am & plead not guilty. The judge will then set a trial date & subpoena the trooper.

Doc, will the trooper show up with a dash cam video?

Also, this will be a trial (no jury) before a judge & I will be acting as my own attorney......will I be allowed to ask the trooper questions under oath?

Will I be allowed to present video/ picture evidence?

If they do court like we do here, which is traffic court, you will appear before the judge to make a plea...guilty or not guilty. If not guilty, they will set a date for trial. The judge will hear it, and the trooper will be there...with dash cam video...you will be able to ask questions...and present evidence
