Radar Detector Hardwiring / Head Unit / Odds & Ends
Hello All,
Me again.
I had a 9500IX that was hardwired in my S197 Mustang, the Stang had to go, so I took the harness, detector out.
I did the installation today. I didn't have to go through the firewall, thankfully. I found a easier way to wire it.
I swap out the head unit the second day I got the car. Made a wiring harness for the OEM harness, so when I want to switch back to OEM, I can. It's a cheap *** Walmart head unit, I know, but I just want iPod Playback/Charging function in the same time. I tried a FM module in Mustang, HATED it....Since there's no simple playback/charging solution for Crossfire, then swap out the head unit seem to be the logical way to go.
Pictures? Sure!
Overall:

9500IX on window, I'll get a better mount sometime later, but for now, it serves its purpose.

the 9500IX smart control.

Head unit & center console.

Again, Overall....

Comments? Good Bad? Let me know.

Re: Radar Detector Hardwiring / Head Unit / Odds & Ends
For these who wanted to know more about the install.
I found the Lamp/Accessory Fusebox, which were for head lamps, brake lamps etc.
Grab a coin, key or w/e to unlock the panel and open.

If you look in the fuse description, you will see fuse #4 is a Control fuse(Rear Wiper, Mirror ETC), so it's a key-on and not switched like the other ones.
IMG_0644.jpg
Get a fuse tap, tap into Fuse #4, make sure don't exceed 10A for the add-on.
IMG_0636.jpg
Peel off the A Pillar, put the wires in.
IMG_0642.jpg
The Positive comes out from fuse box, the negative can be mounted on one of these bolts.
IMG_0637.jpg
Clean up cable, put back the A Pillar cover.
IMG_0643.jpg
Organize your cable through top, to mirror, and Smart Control switch.

IMG_0640.jpg
Put everything back in place.
Done.
If there might be a possibility that this will mess up anything/electrical etc, please let me know.
Thanks.

It helped.. from what I read you scrubbed off 20 MPH.. that or the cop really didn't want to wait on a tow truck with you handcuffed in the back seat..

I did one of the mirror mount detector mounts and that is an awesome mod to do. It looks so professional! There are pics in my install, do a search to see how I did it (idea was from another member I think Dave or MrM. Anyway, the mirror mount is a great clean mod easy to do.

Re: Radar Detector Hardwiring / Head Unit / Odds & Ends
If you did a Fuse Tap, Both fuses should be inserted into the tap to make everything working. Insert only one will make only one side (original or tapped) work.
If you have both in place and still not working, check the fuse.
Re: Radar Detector Hardwiring / Head Unit / Odds & Ends
That was the problem only had one fuse in......Thank You !
