Default dome light sensors

hey guys, this is only my second post even though i have been a member for about a year. I am the proud owner of a 2004 black x-fire. I love this car!! I recently smacked a deer with it, and low and behold, the insurance company fixed it!!! but since it has come back from the body shop, my interior light does not go out when u close the doors. i have read ALL the other posts that pertain to this problem, but none of them seem to fit. I have read that there is a dome light sensor in the lift gate area, but, for the life of me, i cannot find it. I found the ones on both doors, but the trunk is a mystery. Any help will be appreciated. And please dont tell me to read the threads, as i have, many times. I have fixed every prior problem without posting, as i do read the threads. And i have had EVERY common problem with this car, and have fixed them all thanx to this sites info. The body shop man DID have the lift gate off of the car to do repairs on the rear section, as the deer was hit by the front passenger healight area, shot over the roof and crash, right through my rear glass!

It is in the latch assembly, switch ZH29,
see page 8W-44-2 of the 2005 SRT6 Service manual available in the below links as a .pdf file.

Without some computer skills you are at a real disadvantage I'm sorry to say.
Try and download this link and save it to your desktop.
2004 Service Manual (click)
It is a big file and takes some time to down load.

Open it from the desktop and go to Section 23 page 35.
It shows the latch and the harness connection, it is possible that it was not connected at all when it was being fixed.
The harness is inside the hatch door and is accessible by removing the interior trim panel.
There is nothing to adjust, it works or it does not work.

Just a thought. If they worked on the doors of the car and had the interior trim panels off they may have left the small
C shaped escutchen off around the door latch. This pushes the door flange switch for the interior lights which turns them off. It is easy to overlook it not being there.

thanx for the link to the service manual. I will save it to my desktop as suggested. I have fixed the dome light! As it turns out, that switch is in the latch assembly itself, if your body striker hoop is not adjusted high enuff, your latch on your liftgate will not push all the way up into the second notch on your liftgate latch, and your light WILL NOT go out. As soon as i adjusted it, it worked flawlessly! Thanx all!

If that catch is set too high your hatch will rattle. If it was too low it would be hard to get the hatch to not rattle anyway.

Another happy satisfied owner! I make it a point to remind everyone to please come back and let everyone know if what was bothering you and your XF was fixed/repaired. Sometimes, the loop isn't closed, and we don't know if any particular suggestion either fixed, or caused you to bring it to a mechanic (many attempts to fix things tent to drive someone to take her in, so to speak). So, be a good contributor, if something works, let us know. If it doesn't, let us know so we can collectively try again. Thats why we're here! Thank you, very much! GG has left the post!
