Guys, be sure to check the rear plastic trim in the trunk, it's just under the hatch and it rattled on mine. Tap against the lower part of the trim to hear the rattle. I put rubber weather stripping at the bottom of the trim and the rattle went away.. I also put felt strips on the gutter where the rubber stops contact the paint. This protects the paint and gets rid of any gap.

Cheers

Sean.
Had the same issue with mine, the bumpers had actually wore a footprint down thru the paint to bare metal.

I used 3M Weatherstrip adhesive to glue two small strips of thin rubber to the gutter where the bumpers seat and problem fixed. The rubber was thin enough where I didn't have to jack with re-adjusting the bumpers.

Just my Dos Centavos !

my 05 suffered from the rattle... adjusting the rubber bumpers would work for a week or so, putting some felt under them attached to the painted surface also would work, for awhile... the permanent fix was to wrap the round striker bar attached to the body with three wraps of black electrical tape. I did this almost a year ago, and not a rattle from the hatch ever since, even on the roughest roads. I figure this is one of the cheapest easiest fixes ever...

Hmmm, that sounds like that could do the trick! I'd rather try that than have the butchers at the dealership mess with the car to change out the latch. They'd probably end up scratching something.

I will be employing the black electrical tape this evening. Thanks for letting us know!

I tried electrical tape yesterday.

As of yet, no rattles. I have driven about 70 miles.

I also plan on adjusting the rubber stoppers after I get something to better protect the paint where the rubber stoppers touch the car.

Thanks again for the tip.

The reason I'm going with duct tape is that the black electrical tape I have is so old that it doesn't stick to anything anymore. And yes, I'm too cheap to buy some more!

Imabenz - does your car have the clear plastic film on the body where the hatch bumpers make contact? Mine are starting to break apart and I've had to reglue them down a couple of times already. Looks like I'll also have to find another way to protect the paint in the near future.

C'mon man, 59 cents at Home Creepo!

Many people use the soft side of adhesive velcro strips. Adds a little padding too.

Wrapped the striker with duct tape (yea, I know, but it was available and electrical tape wasn't) and that fixed the rattle. The hatch could be bouncing all over but I don't care because I don't hear it. Thanks for the tip.

No, it does not have any clear plastic film where the rubber bumpers make contact. I will get some 3M tape to protect that area because it already shows sign of wearing through the paint.

Sorry it took so long to respond, but my crossfire has been under a car cover the past few days. I do not have a garage and we've had a few days of rain. Today was nice and i drove it to work today. Still no rattles.

The lack of rattle has changed my approach to the car. Before I was cautious when driving it because I hated to hear that rattle and felt like the car was falling apart. Now I just whip it around to my heart's content.

3M makes a clear tape and also a black felt tape may be better than the unsigltly duct tape and the possiblity of glue running down the rear of the car in the summer heat.

I'll replace the duct tape with something better. Right now it's just a quick fix.

Bet you'd be surprised how handy duct tape is for fixing airplanes. It's not known as 100 MPH speed tape for nothing.

Well, I must say thank you to the poster who figured out the elec. tape fix. I removed all the double sided tape and other fixes that were only temporary. I wrapped the hatch bar with about 4 turns of elec. tape and not a creak out of the hatch. I hit holes, uneven pavement, and all kinds of crap. Not a sound!! That dam hatch has been bugging me since I got the car. The car is smooth and quiet now!! THANKS!!!!

Very first MOD I ever did on my Limited Crossfire - & the first mod on my SRT6. (Second was the speaker capacitor) - Cheap and Easy - Just how I like it!! - go to any store for the fix - Use the "Stiff End". As all guys should. 9 Mos later - still no issues.

I took all my strips off. With the tape on the latch bar, there is no need for the other remedies other than just protecting the paint if the factory clear protectors are gone.
