Default 2004 Door Locks "Automatically" (HOW TO DISABLE!)

Was changing the cabin air filter, with the doors open, and noticed the doors locked. I looked in my owners manual and it doesn't say anything about an autolock feature. The security red blinking light was flashing on the console button. Anyone know what's up with that? Don't want to get locked out of the car again being I only have one FOB.

GO DOWN TO ENTRY #6 ON HOW TO DISABLE THE AUTO-LOCK SYSTEM.

Not sure what your situation exactly but I went through a episode thinking there was a gremlin in my car. I was new, naive and had no understanding of these cars.

Working under the hood and all of a sudden the doors locked. Unlocked them with the fob and went back to work under the hood and the doors locked. I did this over and over.

I posted it here and one of the gurus told me that if you unlock the car with the fob and don't open a door (drivers?) the car will lock itself up in 60 seconds. Duh.

I have a key blank and want to have a key cut so if I get locked out I can open to door. Manual says it won't lock if the key is in the ignition. When working on car, I think I'll leave the window down till I get a key cut just in case!
Another aggravation is when the drivers door is open it just beeps, beeps and beeps!

Just like when the key is left in the ignition, and the driver forgot to take it out off the ignition switch . . . some car will automatically lock the door after a while when this happens. Maybe the XF has this feature. Never tested it.

When I was locked out last week I had to remove the driver's side license plate light and trip the hatch lock to get in. Then p[laced my "portly" body inside and used a coat hanger to pull the door handle to gain access. LoL

Here's how to turn the auto-door lock feature off.

"The manual is wrong. The method for enabling or disabling the auto-lock is as follows:
Get in the car with the doors closed. Put key in Ignition. Press and hold the door lock button on the console (up to disable autolock, down to enable auto-lock). While holding the door lock button, turn the ignition to on. Do not start the car. Hold for about 5 to 10 seconds."

I discovered this by trial and error, and it was way back in September when I got the car, so I may be a little off on the exact routine. Good Luck.

IT WORKED FOR ME! WHEN I DID THE PROCEDURE I SAW THE FLASHING LIGHT GO "STEADY" AND I KNEW SOMETHING DIFFERENT HAD HAPPENED.

( Dang it! ) Well that didn't last very long! It's right back to automatically locking the doors.

Now it mysteriously started working again "not auto-locking" the doors and I didn't do anything. Must be mystical magic! Maybe someone else could try programing their doors and see what happens!

Still working like I wanted it to so I guess procedure is correct!

Copied the following from the service manual. I hope it helps.

Page 8N-31
From the service manual:

Automatic Relocking Function
To avoid unlocking the vehicle unintentionally, the vehicle is automatically relocked by the Central Locking Pump/
Security System Module via the SKREEM. Automatic Relocking takes place after the vehicle has been unlocked
with either the Remote Keyless Entry Transmitter or the driver’s door lock cylinder. The vehicle will be relocked if the
SKREEM module doesn’t receive a message within 40 seconds from any of the following:
² An open door signal.
² The key in the ignition sense.
² The power lock switch signal.
² The rear liftgate signal.
Automatic Locking
The power lock switch in the center console operates the automatic locking feature. With the ignition switch in the
ON/RUN position, pressing and holding the upper portion of the power lock switch for at least five seconds activates
automatic locking. With the automatic locking feature activated, the doors and rear liftgate will lock upon reaching a
speed of approximately 15 km/h (9 MPH). If after automatic locking is active, the vehicle is unlocked with the interior
power lock switch, this state is maintained until a door is opened, or until the ignition is turned off. Automatic locking
is accomplished again only upon reaching the specified speed. The logic circuitry for automatic locking is integrated
into the Central Locking Pump/Security System Module. The automatic locking feature can also be toggled

Page POWER LOCKS - SERVICE INFORMATION 8N - 33

STANDARD PROCEDURE - TOGGLING CUSTOMER PREFERENCES
Automatic Locking
The automatic locking function can be activated or deactivated with the DRB IIIT. The interior power door lock
switch may also be used with the ignition switched on by pressing and holding the power door lock switch for more
than 5 seconds in either the lock (auto locking switched on) or unlock (auto locking switched off) position. The interior
power door lock switch can be inhibited with the DRB IIIT.
Global/Selective Central Locking
The keyless entry system has a Global or Selective mode function for central locking that can be programed by the
customer. The factory setting is Global, which will lock and unlock both doors, rear liftgate and fuel door centrally
when the respective button is pressed once. The Selective mode will only change which power locks unlock. To
activate the Selective mode, press both the Unlock and Lock buttons simultaneously for approximately five seconds
until the battery check lamp in the transmitter flashes twice. The Unlock button will then only unlock the driver door
and the fuel door when it is pressed once. Pressing the Unlock button a second time, unlocks the passenger’s door
and the rear liftgate. The factory setting can be restored by pressing both the Unlock and Lock buttons simultaneously
again for approximately five seconds until the battery check lamp in the transmitter flashes twice. If the
vehicle was locked using the power lock switch in the center console while in the Selective mode, opening a door

ZH POWER LOCKS - SERVICE INFORMATION 8N - 33

from inside unlocks that door only. If the vehicle was locked using the power lock switch in the center console while
in the Global mode, opening a door from the inside unlocks both doors and the rear liftgate. If the vehicle was
locked using the RKE transmitter, the doors and rear liftgate cannot be unlocked using the power lock switch in the
center console. If the vehicle was locked from the outside, opening a door from the inside will not unlock other
openings but it will trigger the alarm.

My 2005 roadster also has the automatic locking feature, but it seems to engage if I unlock the doors, but don't open the doors (e.g., just open the truck). After a few minutes the doors lock. I recall seeing a menu in the DRB III for setting the autolock feature as well when I was troubleshooting for a different issue.

If you want to disable the door auto locking, go to my post #6. It does not interfere with 15 mph auto locking. Mine works perfectly now. I just did not want the door locks to lock without the fob or the console door lock switch.

When i program the locks to stay unlocked it does not last. Hours later or even the next day it's right bck to auto locking! Must be a glitch in my ecu or screem i'd guess.

The ECU plays no role in door locking. The SKREEM only commands a door lock/unlock event when the FOB lock or unlock is pressed or when you use the key to turn the lock cylinder in the driver's door.

The autolock is a function that either exists in the CLP/SSM, or between the BCM and the CLP/SSM. I suspect it's all in the CLP/SSM but without monitoring the CAN BUS between the BCM and CLP/SSM, I cant say for sure.
One clue is that the console button is wired directly to the BCM. (SKREEM commands are also passed directly to the BCM - the BCM tells the CLP/SSM what to do over the CAN BUS that connects the BCM to the CLP/SSM.

Well not trusting the auto door lock feature I did a "Dumb-Dumb" again this morning! I wanted t move the car out of the carport so I unlocked the car and just let it roll out. Went back in the house and after about 30 minutes I was looking for my only key! Couldn't find it so I went back out to the car and looked in the window. THERE IT WAS ON LAYING ON THE SEAT! The horror hit me, in an instant, that the door probably locked! Pulled on the door handle and it opened! Guess sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Anyhow I'm thankful. LoL

Wait, this has come up before. I know of one autolock feature:

The car is locked, you use the FOB to unlock it. You then do not open a door.
THe car autolocks in a certain amount of time.
Opening a door is supposed to cancel the autolock.

I have never had a problem with the car locking on me, other than when I did not open the door after unlocking - but frankly, I have a rule: When the car is in the garage at the house, the drivers' door window is always down.

......... and I did not realize there was a way to turn this feature off until now, and I've owned three Roadsters since 2009 and have thousands of posts on here.

Your so very right! I tried it. Unlocked with FOB opened the door, closed the door and checked it an hour later. It was "unlocked!" Thanks
