Radio Removal
I need to replace my radio on a 2006 Roadster. In order to be sure I get the correct replacement I need to remove the radio I now have. In an earlier forum someone mentioned keys that fit in the lower right and left corners of the radio that allow the radio to be removed.
My question is, where can I find the keys to remove the radio? I would appreciate any help I can get regarding this issue. Thanks! gcong

Or if you are in a hurry, you can fab out of 1/2" s/s strapping. Cut to same profile and bend the ends 90 degrees instead of the finger loops

Okay, I ran to Wal Mart and picked up the keys for the radio. I have removed the radio and retrieved all of the info I will need (I guess?). Can the keys be removed without damaging anything? The radio still plays, but the amplifier apparently is causing a short which drained the battery. I don't know if the amplifier can be repaired. I have been told to replace the radio. At the dealer, they estimated $600 to $800. I have seen replacements on the internet and needed the model # etc. to make an usable switch. Until I do that I would like to continue to use this radio. The problem is, when the fuse was removed to stop the battery from being drained, I now am without the electric door locks.

And if they DID measure the current, did they offer to leave that wire cut so you would not drain the battery while keeping the locks working? (Does not sound like it).
Pardon me, but I'm suspicious, cynical and just a pain in the ***.
and THEN you slide the radio back in the slot. You don't need the 'keys' in the radio to re-install it.
No, they didn't measure any current, just removed the fuse. There is a description of what the fuse feeds in the owners manual, I think. Anyway, after talking to a service rep on the phone he came to the conclusion that it was the amplifier. Simply because it was the only radio related function related to the fuse removed.
Does anyone know of a good, independent Crossfire mechanic/electrician in the Lansing, MI area? How about a reliable auto-radio repair person?
I appreciate all of the information, although it is not what I necessarily wanted to hear. I was suspicious from the beginning, but have little basic electrical knowledge to work with. I've rewired a 1949 Ford, but that was straight forward, wire/fuse, wire/fuse,,,,,,. gcong

Am I missing something? Your battery is being drained and this means it MUST be the radio? What - no need to check anything else, just replace the radio and amplifier for $800 and all will be well?
Or am I not understanding something?
Again - If someone did not get in there and MEASURE THE CURRENT and watch it go to ZERO when the radio or amp was unplugged, you have not proven what is draining the battery.
Take the damn thing to Troup Electronics in Jackson (the Motorola shop) and tell them you will pay their guy Greg Richardson to grab his meter and PROVE where the current is going. Be prepared to pay $95 or so an hour for up to two hours for him to figure this out. THEN you can go buy what you need.
I know Greg personally, call down there and ask him to do it at home for, like $50 an hour!!!
Tell him that Mark in Georiga sent you.

Yo! Pizza Guy! Simply put, they found the location of the fuse where the leak was occurring. Logic (according to Chrysler) says, pull the fuse, problem solved. Thanks for your information about the guy in Jackson!!! gcong
23 for the amp, 5 & 8 for the head unit.
Because I have the 6 spd. roadster, cheaper model, I have a number of fuses missing. 23 is missing and I think this is the one they removed for the short (soundbooster). The rest of them come with the more expensive model (1, 4, 9 12, 13, 21, 22, 24). Number 9 is missing, but I have a horn and I know when I put the car up on jacks for the winter I cannot start the car and an alarm goes off. Number 9 indicates it is for roof light, horn, anti-theft-alarm, trunk light, tire pressure control. gcong
