Default CPS replacement

First off, thank you guys for a great forum.

Apparently I have the CPS problem. I ordered the new one. From what I read, it should be easy to install. I just looked at the engine from the top and do not see the sensor, and there isn't much room to work.

Can someone please post a picture or describe to me where it is? Once I put it up on ramps, is it easily seen from the bottom?

Thanks for any help you can give.

Stand on the driver side of the engine and look behind the engine toward the transmission.
The attached PDF shows what you are looking for.

What Dave said, plus, I found it much easier if I removed the metal guard ( 2 Torx bolts ).
( I re-installed the guard when finished )

BTW: that's actually onehundred80 under that cover in his avatar - he is fed once a week through the rectangular license plate hole, that is the only break he gets from answering posts ......

Let me emphasize once again here.. after getting the torx broke loose .. put some tape on the socket to grip the screw to help hold it.. unless you like crawling around looking for them. Good for installing them too.

Great info. Replaced mine yesterday no problems. I used a little spray degreaser on clip released with minimal pressure.

Thanks.

Make bosch part a priority. I used a napa part lasted 30 days.
Happy motoring

My SRT has 28000 miles and I'm replacing the IC pump this month, should I replace the CPS? I'm really not sure what it does and what the simptons are of a failing one but I see its suggested to do it the pump.

The CPS is the main timing source for the ignition, it tells the PTCM the position of the crankshaft.
Then along with the other CPS ( Camshaft Position Sensor ), the PTCM knows the exact degree of the crankshaft.
The symptoms of a slightly bad one are engine stumbling, a totally bad one will cause the engine to die ( at any speed ) and not restart.

$40-$50 is cheap insurance, and you can carry the old one along with needed tools as a spare.
( The camshaft sensor seldom goes bad, that figures as it is the one on the front of the engine easy to get to. )

I may have the stumbling problem, when I hit the gas hard at a standstill there is a significant hesitaion and then it takes off. Is this what you refer to as stumbling?

No, that seems fuel related.
What I mean by CPS stumbling is that the engine goes completely dead for a second or 2, usually accompanied by a CEL and some ignition related P codes.

Typo, this should say Camshaft Position Sensor.

At our age it's best to call it a typo, too many BF's these days.

I dont have OBD softeare so I'm not sure if there are any "P code" any other suggestions? I do loose the SC at speeds over 65MPH or when the car gets hot, so I am changing the aux pump (has the original with 28,600 miles on the car) and i was thinking of putting in a larger air to water IC.

Right, change out the pump. I'm a fan of the Bosch 10, mainly for plug-n-play. I'd be willing to bet after you tear down the original pump, it'll be obvious. I couldn't believe mine had failed on the black one after only 800! orig miles, but it had the exact same symptoms as your car.

You say you have the 10 now, the OEM pump was not a 10 it was an 04 I believe, so if you have a 10 someone changed it before.
