Default Alternator

I'm a bit frustrated here. I thought I had a great deal on an alternator from Advanced Auto. A couple hundred bucks. It came in and the pulley was the smaller six groove. I thought it would be an easy swap, but the eight groove that I need for my belt has a spacer built into it, and the six doesn't, so when you swap them out it makes my pulley stick out about an eight inch too far. Took it back, and they can't get the other for sure. So I've been on the hunt and can only find the dealer new ones ranging in price from eight hundred to over a grand!!! I did find a place called AE (American Engine) in Cal that has them on line for three hundred, but they won't answer the phone to confirm it's the eight groove......Anybody have a line on one, let me know please.

I thank you for that link, but I've figured out once again, when you're in a hurry you will end up doing things twice. What I found out today, at a rebuilt shop I went to, is that the spacer that was keeping my pulley spaced too far out is not part of the armature shaft. It comes off!!! You just get a small screwdriver and pry under it, and it comes right off the shaft. Well don't I feel like an idiot after wasting an afternoon to find that out.....So, the Advanced Auto one that I bought and took back was correct, even if the pulley was the wrong size. All I had to do is pull that spacer and swap the pulley.....Good lord!

I still wouldnt trust one from Advance. I had a bad experience with a alternator I bought for my 93 LT1 camaro from O'Reiliy that was a lemon. It would work on and off. So it kept killing my battery which was a red top optima.

Anyway, they didnt want to take the thing back since I put it on saying it was something else wrong my car . After I got them to test it 3 time straight back to back to back on the testing machine it failed. I got my money back, spent $20 on a junkyard one from ebay out a wrecked camaro and it worked fine. Even after I sold the car it is still working fine, I know the guy that brought it.

So with that in mind, here is a OEM alternator from a wrecked srt-6 for $70.

I understand your concerns, but one bad apple..... Most aftermarkets are rebuilt properly, and a doing fine. I have this one in already. I really didn't want a used one, finding that that my old one failed at sixty-thousand miles, and not knowing how many miles are on a used one. I'll let you if it fails..... So far, no light on the dash

The pulleys are different on the NA and the SRT as you know, also the connector to the alternator is different as well. The NA uses a Bosch alternator and the SRT uses a Valeo alternator hence the different connector. I believe the connector can be fudged to fit though.

I made sure that it was the Valeo, and although the pulley was the smaller size, the plug fit correctly.
Once the spacer ring was removed, my pulley fit just fine......

Dave, my 07 SE has a Valeo as well. Which connector is different - I KNOW the battery stud looks a lot larger on the Bosch, but I can't tell from pictures if the low-current connector is the same, it is shaped the same on the outside, but I can't see the pins in it in the photo.
