That's a handsome lookin clutch yah got there!

I'm sure some of our other Crossfire members would be interested in a performance clutch/flywheel package as they are sure to wear the OEM one out eventually...

Especially since both parts would be less than just the OEM clutch alone...

would'nt a dual plate clutch be a better option for your race car Derek? longer clutch life and better heat resistance.?

No, not per David Norton at SPEC... He says the 6 puck design is the perfect balance between reduction in rotating mass, clamping strength and longevity for my application, road racing... I had this in-depth discussion with him prior to ordering this one because they offer so many different options from dual plate street clutches to crazy AZZ dragstrip clutches and all are available for the XF.... I'm not the clutch expert, he is... If you need a technical discussion on the pros and cons of each, I would suggest you give him a call...

Top end complete finally... Here's some photos of the "table-top" assembly to check fitment. I installed the phenolic spacers and dual gaskets and had to find some 3mm spacers for the outboard plenum bolts because the spacer caused a larger gap on the outboard side of each plenum. For those of you planning on the phenolic spacers, you will need 4 spacers that are 3mm thick X 9mm diameter with a 6mm hole for the bolt. I also found some great insulated "O" connectors from an aerospace equipment supplier and replaced the OEM rubber ones that connect the supercharger inlet tube to the IC & plenums. Also replaced the OEM hose clamps with aerospace "T" bolt clamps.

Since the OEM intercooler connecting lines were very thin walled 5/8" aluminum pre-bent tubes, I replaced them with 3/4" since the rest of the new cooling system is all the same... And I insulated those tube and installed #12 AN fittings to connect them to the rest of the plumbing...

Its taken me a while to get up to speed with all this. Great progress, Derek, things are looking fantastic
I finally got to see an SRT engine for real over Christmas when simon-srt6 brought his along to the first UK meet. Its all making me want to tear in to mine but I'm going to have to resist the temptation for a while

HDDP-

Where did you order the insulated O rings from? Do you have a link to the shop or was it someplace local?

It's a place in San Fernando, CA that is a big "salvage" warehouse. They have all kinds of weird electronics and parts from the aerospace industry. It's called Apex Electronics. here's their web address. http://www.apexelectronic.com/ Take a look at their website, it'll freak you out... Everytime I go into the place I never want to leave, there are thousands of gizmos and connectors, you name it...

OK, I just did a quick read over the entire thread. Have you been able to do a dry fit with the manual trans yet? The reason that I ask, is because the crankshafts are different part #'s through the DCX database. Being that they are both 3.2 engines, I doubt the stroke is different. However the bolt pattern should be same on the block, considering the block #'s are the same. I hope you don't have to do an emergancy crankshaft swap.

Have not directly mated them up yet, but did create templates at a MB engine remanufacturer http://www.mercedesengines.net/ for comaprison long before I purchased the engine and researched it to death with Mike . The bell housing bolts are identical, the flywheel bolts are identical, splines are identical, etc.

I'm looking at the parts catalog right now, and the cranks have the same part number, though there was a part number change on engines built after 02/04/2004. The SRT sales code is EGZ and the N/A sales code is EGX. There is a thrust bearing and "repair" bearing size difference which lead me to believe that they changed the shaft diameter on engines built after 02/04/2004

Not to say we didn't overlook anything, but I'm pretty confident they will mate perfectly... It would be funny as hell if they didn't Wouldn't be the first time I was wrong...

those specs are only for the N/A motor. I will post the chrysler #'s later for both N/A and SRT.

Crankshaft part # SRT 5143037aa
I don't have the full supersession, if there is any, but I am sure they are not the same part #.

Funny I thought the srt6 or AMG 32 has a forged crank vs the NA 3.2

Nevermind I just checked out Wolfgangs ML page and yes you are correct the NA is a forged crank. http://www.whnet.com/4x4/new_V6.html

This was the original parts list and it has been updated... Part numbers are now listed differently. But dimensions are the same and swapable, per Mike at mercedesengines.net

Don't worry, they are different part numbers... And a substantial price difference as well, but both versions mate to the same flywheel assembly...

At any rate good luck to you. I would love to see you suceed beyond your expectations. I have been researching the same deal pretty much, and figured it's cheaper and easier to swap complete engines rather than add the s/c. This is of course just looking for small amounts of boost, not for race purposes like you. Again good luck!
