Put the new parts on
First I want to thank tighed1 for the super cooler and Rob for his Needswings dual CAI. You don't want do this job without plenty of time unless you've done it before. The part I was most worried about was the easiest. (taking the nose off the car) Saturday I got the super cooler in but I was so hot and tired (were suffering through a harsh winter .... hot) that I put the nose back on and made plans for day 2. Day 2 I discovered the nose had to come off again to get the power steering lines out. I spilled power steering fluid all over the ground from the bottom hose. I had turned it up and propped it but while I was trying to get the power steering lines out it fell and all the fluid ran out before I saw what was happening. But I didn't spill a drop from the old lines. Thats when I decided to take the nose off again. That was a downer, for sure.
The Y for the dual CAI was bumping up against the brake booster vacuum line on the drivers side and there was no way it would fit without interference so I called Rob and in half an hour we were talking on the phone. He offered to send a new one immediately but I decided to trim it. I took off 1/2 inch from the throttle body side and now it clears the booster line. (still touches but without pressure.) Today I got the power steering fluid, filled it up and went for a ride. First impressions were so so. Then I really went for a ride and the car is slower than ever. The tires just spin at any rpm at full throttle in first and second. I can't imagine how fast the car will be it if ever hooks up again. I'm very impressed with the results. I still have some adjusting to do and I kept the super cooler attached to the cooling system for now. I'll get it separated soon.
Rob has won my future business. There's nothing more comforting than knowing that if you have a problem, you can get in touch and he'll pop the hood on his car while talking to you on the phone and offer up a solution "flash".
Thanks Rob!

It will be good to see your dyno results and the increases that you are enjoying. Separating the cooler circuits now is not a need do thing, till warmer weather. I have a no cost improvement this summer for the super coolers that will be a gain of about 10-15% MORE cooling without parts, now thats gotta be a deal. Till then ENJOY, Woody
I didn't separate the cooling circuits because I didn't bleed the air out of the H/E by running the pump with an auxiliary battery. I pinched the return hose with needle nose vice grips and drove around the garage. Today it was in the mid 80's, it never gets cold here so I won't wait too long to do it. I took the car out on a long drive around with the air conditioner on and I didn't notice less cooling or the engine running hotter than normal. I need to drive a bit more before giving a full review. Like I said before, so far I'm impressed. I'll try to get another dyno soon to document any gains. My last dyno was only 2 weeks ago. Oh, free mods are my favorites!

glad to hear she is up and running around today.
the front bumper does not need to come off to get the p/s cooling line out. you just need to remove the grill and then undo the mounting spacer from the oem cooling line (under the hood). once that is removed and the 2 open ends of the cooling line are no longer connected under the hood, you can rotate the passenger side of the line behind the grill upwards and then you can pull the line out thru the grill.
sorry if it was unclear in the instructions, i'll edit that into it better. ya should have called me on that one

I've got a PTE thermostat sitting in a box in the closet.
I'm thinking of a way to pinch the hoses without cutting them. If it turns out good I'll take pictures and tell everyone how great they look and work. If not I won't take pictures and lie about how they look and work. JK.
I'm dragging my feet on the tune until I have the Zeitronix installed. And I'm dragging my feet on the Zeitronix because I fear tapping into the wires at the ECU. Foolish, but true.
On my last dyno the A/F looked real good but I'm thinking of changing the fuel pump for something a bit more potent. But that's still in the ponder stage. It seems like one mod leads to another. My tires are almost gone, I need dedicated drag rims and tires. NOT ENOUGH MONEY!! If only the stock market would help me out.

why not send the ecu to tony for a flash and see how you like it. or do the remote tune and you can datalogg when the funds are better. just athought
of course i still have those nitto dr's on replicas that are beggin to put on a car!!
Today I drove around and was checking out my IAT's. After a few sprints up to 70 mph the IAT's were around 125 and they stayed there. I drove around normally a few minutes to see if they would drop but they stayed the same. So I parked the car for an hour, then went back to pinch the return line just in case air is still in the system. Started the car with the IAT's at 140º, pinched the line and drove around the garage. Un pinched the hose and drove around the garage a bit and they came down to 125 again. (it's in the mid 80's here) So my question. Do you think the IAT's are staying at 125 because I still have air in the system or because the cooling systems are still connected? Is my stock pump not doing the job? Opinions welcome. Tomorrow or friday I'll separate the systems and see what difference it makes.

How does that remote tuner work? Like I know you get the laptop and all but do you just connect to the internet and Eurocharged send you the file and you upload it through the OBD port? or is it more complicated then that
Good to know it's not a bad pump. I just checked the weather and it was 91º today while I was driving around. The IAT's were around 110º until I did a few full throttle sprints. What surprised me is it didn't return to 110º, rather it stayed around 125º. Maybe the cooler is too close to the radiator?

To pinch the hose for a bit and drive around one simple method is to use an adjustable wrench. Put it on the hose and tighten the screw till it is as clamped as you like and tape it in place if the car is to be moved, NOT DRIVEN ON ROAD as it will fall into the belts or fan. When purging the hose to the overflow tank, you only need to restrict it about 1/2 or so to get the air to move into the tank and vent the cooler circuit. Woody
Well, well, well!!! I did the cooling system separation today and just got back from a short test drive. The engine runs a few degrees warmer than usual, 3 or 4º, but the IAT's are substantially lower. Being a law abiding citizen I didn't go over 70 mph but I boosted more than the other day when I was seeing 125º under normal driving conditions. Today they peaked at or just above 105º but came right down and stayed at 100º or a touch lower. It was a short drive and tomorrow I'll take a trip to get a better idea how temps are going to be under different scenarios. From what I can see so far, anyone will see a huge benefit by separating the systems no matter what heat exchanger is in the car. Sunday is race day! I hope I don't spin out with all this new powaaahhhh!

I went to the short track yesterday and the results were good. I shaved a few tenths off my best time on the first run. All my other runs were in the rain so I didn't get the chance to do better. The IAT's stay under 100º on the highway. When stuck in traffic they go up to 125º and stay there.
On the track the highest temps were at the start from sitting and soaking heat from the proximity to the radiator. At times I started at 140º and during the race the IAT's reached 142º but came right down in the slow sections to 125º. Until I do the fan mod with the 185º thermostat 125º seems to be where they settle out during normal (for me) driving. I have the stock Bosch pump which is better matched to the stock heat exchanger and I imagine something more potent is appropriate with the larger heat exchanger. The always on mod is needed for racers IMO.
The car had amazing grip in the rain. The Pilot Sport Cups are amazing. They are horrible with puddles but if the track is just damp they grip almost as good as when dry.
Stay tuned for the next chapter.

you can thank me woith 2 large bottles of puerto rican rum!!!
it isnt a necessity to enlarge the i/c pump because the i/c circuit is low pressure. as long as the bosch is working it should be fine. a remote tank for ice always helps but will soon equalize the temp in the system unless drained and refilled. the -10 * fan mod really cools the engine down as my engine temps were higher due to the supercooler blocking some airflow. on my 32 its a super tight fit to get it in !

If anyone has never had pisco it's amazing and quite delicious. my favorites were from Peru and Chile. I love work sending me out of the country, get to experience all sorts of new beverages

I'm looking at the data logs and comparing them to previous runs. The engine ran the same temperatures as before so that's a good thing. Looking at the throttle position I was much less time at 100% but faster even with the moist conditions. The IAT's never got to 150º which is a good thing. The track is short and my average speed around it was 67 mph. March 13 and 14th I have a track day at the fast track. I expect to see higher IAT's because there I'm at 100% and under full boost much longer. I imagine my average speed around the big track is in the 90 mph range.
