Default 6 Speed Oil Change- HELP ! ! !

A friend has loaned me her '05 Crossfire (base model convertible) while my 2 cars are in the shop (what are the odds ). Anyway she bought it used with about 120K miles on it and from the way it shifts I'd bet the 6 speed's oil has never been changed, so I'd like to do that for her. I have found conflicting information about the car so I called the local dealer and spoke with their parts guy and got the impression this car was put together using different parts from different makers. Bottom line is where can I obtain the right filter and oil pan sealer for this car and do I need to find a Chrysler dealer that was originally authorized to sell this car in order to be assured they know how to change the tranny oil correctly ?? She's been nice enough to loan me this car so I'd like to do this for her because I believe she'd notice an improvement in shifting but I don't want to risk something going wrong which would leave me holding the bag for any problems. I'm located in east Tennesse. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks and Merry Christmas to you all !
PS. I intend to use Redline oil. It's done wonders for the 5 speed in my Beetle.

Find an Independant Import Shop the works on Mercedes, not a Chrysler Dealer. They are mechanically a 2003 Mercedes SLK320.

Wow! That was quick. Fortunately I know such a shop. They've been servicing my Beetle for 11 years. I'm lucky to have found them. Thank you so much for the info. You have a good night and Merry Christmas !

Sealer and filter? Six speeds take 1.8quarts of Mobile 1 5W20 or the MB manual transmission fluid. There is no filter or seal, just a fill plug and drain plug.

If you decide to do this yourself, make sure you can get the fill plug open before you drain the fluid.

Thanks pizzaguy and Wadsworth. I'm waiting for a response from the service dept at the local Mercedes dealership. My VW mechanic doesn't want to do it so hopefully MB will. I called the local Chrysler-Jeep dealer and spoke with them and determined they didn't know what the hell they were talking about. If I can't find someone I'm comfortable with I think I'll just buy the oil, give it to her and let her ex-husband who's supposed to be a great mechanic, do the job Thanks guys- Merry Christmas !

I believe you should rethink your last idea. You went from doing something nice for her to creating a possible problem for her.

Why are people so afraid of a simple task as changing fluid in a manual transmission? It has been basically the same since automobiles were invented.

I do have to say the NSG370 is the clunkiest gearbox I've used so it might not be just the fluid (common feedback amongst others). I know on mine the 2nd gear synchros were going out as well (also a common problem)
Since its a chrysler transmission they should know how to do it. MB made the NAG1/722.6 automatic 5 speed transmission that does use a filter and gasket.

Like someone pointed it out, just a drain bolt and fill bolt on the 6 speed. Simple as a diff fluid change but dont expect it to solve the clunky nature of it.

MILES. THat is part of the answer. My Graphite had 116,000 on it when it was lost in an accident. I'd put Mobile 1 5W20 in it at around 50,000-60,000 miles and it helped -but what really helped was MILES.
That car shifted nicely towards the end.

My SE has Mobile 1 5W20 in it and it's OK, but not like the Graphite; I'm at 69,200 so in another 30,000 miles perhaps it will smooth out more.

I didn't know the manual was a Chrysler unit. As I originally said the car is a loaner. Like you said changing the oil should be a no brainer. If I had a lift I'd do it myself. My VW mechanic said he'd do it if I was willing to wait a couple of weeks, which I am. There's always a backlog to see him. The car's got 120K plus miles on it and I'll bet it's never been changed, so improvement or not, it needs it. Using Redline in my VW 5 speed made a noticable improvement. Much smoother, and easier shifting. I definitely understand the"clunkier" description so changing the oil may/may not have an improvement but it's the least I can do to thank her for lending it.

I agree with this. Our 04 Coupe has 225k miles on it, and after changing to M1 5W20 about 10k ago, it shifts like butter.

I've changed my 6 spd oil and really hasn't made a big difference especially from 1st to 2nd, bleeding the clutch system and slave seemed to help but you may as well also bleed the brakes as both systems share the same fluid

It's not, the NSG370 was sourced by Mercedes and built at the Stuttgart Transmission Plant. It's also used in Jeeps Wranglers of the time along with a few other Mercedes models.

Which fluid did you use? It doesn't use standard gear oil, the only fluid you should be using is MS-9224.

Not actually a Chrysler transmission, the NSG370 is a Mercedes designed and sourced tranny. NSG is a German acronym for Neues Schaltgetriebe "manual transmission". It was produced at Mercedes Stuttgart Transmission Plant.
