I've installed my HID's according to this thread and gone through almost everything I can think of, yet while the engine is running only one side (passenger) will fire until it has warmed up. If the engine is not running than both will fire correctly. Would anyone happen to know why this is? And for reference I am using a ddm 55w kit.

Try swapping parts, one at a time, left to right. If there is a component failure, this will pin point it.

As to why it only happens when the engine is running-no effing clue!

Its got to be a faulty part in the kit. Sounds like a process of elimination is needed. If no luck, remove whole kit and exchange for another. Good luck

I'm only guessing but I would suspect the ballast is a bit touchy.
Is it possible that it gets a higher voltage/amperage when the engine is not running?
Maybe the battery is a bit low and can start the lights when the starter has not drained the battery a little too much and when the battery is charged up a bit more then the light get a good kick from the ballast.
If both the ballasts are not for 55 watts operation and one is for 35 watts that may cause a problem.

Max,

How long have you had the HIDs? I'm fixing to get a set and install. Do you recommend 5000K? I notice you have brackets for the ballasts. Do they come with the kit? Thanks for the sticky.

Thanks to Max for the HID reco and the PDF install guide. Put mine in yesterday, huge difference! I almost gave up with that overflow tank but it FINALLY popped off. I was actually lifting the car with the tank at one point! I went with 6000k and its a touch more blue than I expected but looks very nice.

This write up definatly helped on the install. The complete kit was a little easier to install (im sure they made it more of a custom kit) fog lights i still have to install...

My question is, im having some problems aligning the lights now with the hids, i noticed that one is shaking while driving, is this because its not seated right?

Id like to get both adjusted at the right level before i bother with the fog lights.

I also had to Seat them in properly, this was the annoying part as my HID bulb was not exactly the size of the factory size (it was after market)

If I could do it again, I'd get the more powerful 55 watt versions over the 35 watts - I noticed that the factory BMW/Acura HID are far brighter than my 35 watt HID

Lastly, my Ballast keep dying every few months so I have to do the warranty replacement which requires disassembling and reassembling new ballasts every few months..

Awesome, HID-Gate seems to no longer be on ebay, and my Ballasts (Which keep dying out) will no longer be covered under the "lifetime" warranty

Pw0n3D!

Am I the only one who has ballasts dying out occasionally?

I always had problems with that guy and his ballasts. I think I went through 6-8 ballasts until I finally gave up on him. Went to another vendor for my HID fogs and ballasts and havent had a problem.

Thanks Max, for help with another issue. I installed the 5000K HID low beams after looking carefully at your writeup and photos. Easy to do, though not as spiffy as your setup. Newer kits, at least mine, lacked brackets, and even lacked double sided tape and instructions. Good thing I had the go-by!

This link is for the seller I used, in case anybody is looking now. For $40 including shipping, it was a low risk mod. I have one eye, and night driving can be terrifying (especially for my passenger). These lights are a huge improvement.

HID KIT Chrysler Crossfire 04 05 06 07 08 Low Beam H7 | eBay=

I'm seeing no comments on using HID's for the brights. If they use the same H7 bulb, why not?

Again, thanks.

Thanks for the kudos!

here I sit: 6:30 AM, officially on vacation. Yet, I'm at the lab.

When the boss calls, I run. But it will cost them (AU) 2 days for this.

As for the high beams, some have done it but the only problem I see is the "Warm up" time.

Anybody else experience extremely unreliable HID's - they keep burning out. It is to the point where it is annoying/dangerous not having reliable headlights

Only thing I can think of is they are either getting oils from your hands on them, or there is another contaminant around. I have had ones last YEARS, shortest life span for me has been atleast 8+ months.

My $35 "Specials" are going on 3 years. One was gone within a month, but replaced with no issues and all working since.

Hi Everyone!

I am new to the movement towards HID and I just want to be sure I have this correct. I know for sure, I won't be able to switch from my stock bulbs to HID bulbs myself so I certainly plan to take my car to a shop to get this installed, I just wanted to confirm a few things first.

I am interested in having my 2 lows and 2 fogs switched to HID. Do I simply purchase two of these kits (1) with H7 (low) bulbs and (1) with 9006 (fog) bulbs? (There are 2 other lights on the sides of the lows, like in the upper corners; I am not sure what they are called but do they need to be HID as well or are they fine as stock)

Also, I am having trouble deciding between the 5000k and the 6000k. My crossfire is Alabaster (White) so I am inclined to have my HID lights "white" as opposed to "blue-ish" I have heard that the 5000k is the BRIGHTEST but how bright? Is the 6000k a better option so I don't have to worry about blinding opposing traffic?

Finally, just so I don't get completely ripped off, what is the price range, I should expect to pay for installation at an automotive shop?

OK. You will need 2. One H7 kit and one 9006 kit (2 bulb/ballasts each).

5000K is pretty white, but still has a bluish tinge to it. 4300K is your best bet.

The "eyebrow" lamps are just markers-parking lights. They can stay OEM, but will look yellow once the HID's are installed. I swapped to white LED's for those positions. It matched the HID's nicely.

As for price-$50 to $300. I've had fine luck with the cheapies. Some haven't. There are some more recent threads on higher-quality (?) kits. Do a search for "HID" and you'll find them.

4300K is the whitest, 5000K has a tinge of blue and 6000K is even more so.
Whitest = brightest.

Where could I purchase these LED's? I would just rather have it all done at once as opposed to having them look yellow-ish

James,

I can't add or improve on the information Max provided, and agree that 4300 may be your best bet.

I'm answering only because I just converted mine, and then made a trip from northern Mississippi to Tampa and back, with lots of opportunity to evaluate. I am no longer afraid to drive the car at night.

The change to HID's is not cosmetic, though if you go too blue, it will amount to that. Most posts I could find mentioned 5000, with a few with the bluer lights. Very few mentioned the 4300, and the seller (ebay) I found didn't list them, or I didn't see them.

Mine are 5000, and do seem a little bluer than I'd prefer, but the improvement is so great that they could be pink or green and I'd still be happy. I think mine were about $35 shipped. If they quit now, I'd have gotten my money's worth. The deer agree!

Somewhere here or on a vendor's site, I read that the yellower wavelengths penetrate the fog better, so if you go HID, consider shifting more toward 3000. It may not match the low beams, but I'm more interested in what I see, than in what sees me.

If you are inclined, this really is a simple modification.

Oh, search LED and you'll find a lot of information assembled in one post.

Good luck. Enjoy the extra light!

Michael
