Use 9005 bulb in fog lights?

Looks like 9006 bulbs for the fogs.
But, to increase light output, just go with HID's in the lows and fogs:

Thanks Max...Already have a Xentec kit for the lows i'm about to install. I was just curious if the different bulb type (9005) would create more light output since the 9005 bulb is essentially the same as a 9006 but without the metallic coating on the tip of the bulb...
Off topic: You still working down at AU?

Thanks for the info though!

I was looking at the Xenesis bulbs to replace the OEM parts with, but was curious if anyone had actually considered the 9005 bulb for their fogs...

The OEM bulb is 55w, but aftermarket bulbs are available in 80w and 100w, if not more. Do an ebay search for 9006 and you will see them all.

To use a 9005 in a 9006 socket really is not a good idea for two reasons. First you must modify the plug to make it work. Second, the sealing surface at the O ring is a different size, actually a lot smaller allowing dirt into the housing. Put them side by side and you will see the physical difference.
Some one may have more experience with higher wattage bulbs then I do, but I tried intstalling a 100w bulb into my old eclipse for this purpose. The added heat from the bulb melted the plug, causing the wiring harness to the lights to short out. In the end, those $20 bulbs cost me a new battery, alternator, and rewiring most of the electrical components of the car. Up until the time I sold the car, alot of the electronics within the car did not function correctly. I would be careful installing anything electrical with a higher wattage again.
