Replaced the license plate lights today with LEDs. I got them both in--one worked and the other did not, so I flipped the non-working one to match the + and -. Well, when I tried to test them again, neither came on, and also the interior backlighting on the speedo, radio, etc. will not light--thus, I'm assuming I have blown a fuse. I am new to the fuse box, so could someone please provide or direct me to some instruction? Thanks!

 

1. INSPECT THE LICENSE LAMP BULB
Note: If both license lamps are inoperative, inspect Fuse 11 located in the Illumination Control Module/IP
Fuse Block. If the fuse is open, repair the cause of the open fuse before continuing.
Turn the ignition off

The IP is the little fuse panel at the left side of the dash under the plastic panel that has 2 coin-slot screws.

Sounds like you may have more than 1 blown fuse .....

 

Thanks for the response. Could you please be more specific on what to look for to identify a faulty fuse? I'm new to this. And, also, what type and a good place to purchase replacement fuses. Thanks!

 

All the fuses are colored ( by amperage rating ) clear plastic. You just look at a fuse and if the little metal loop thingey inside is broken, then that dog ain't gonna hunt.
NOTE - you have to remove the fuse to look at it

You can buy fuses at :

AutoZone
Advance
O'Reillys
Sears
and maybe even Wal-Mart or you local grocery store in the auto section.

Sometimes there are spares in the fusebox itself labeled 'spare'

I bought led's too and have exact the same problem. Have no dashboard light now and neither license plate light bulb does not work. I didn't have time to look for the interior fuse box today.

Is it located to same place in every model of crossfires? I have model 05' coupe v6.

Also I would like to know if there is a + and - minus sides on the bulb because I didn't see it marked on the bulb.

On LHD ( US ) models it is under the cover on the end of the dash by the drivers door.
In any case, it will be the cover that has 2 coin operated latches, and does NOT have the key lock for disabling the passenger airbag.

I guess the majority that did the LED tag light update (including me ) were just plain lucky - it was just plug and play.

If yours quit and you did not do the LED upgrade, then you have a short to ground in one or both of the tag bulb assemblies.
There is no + or - on standard filament bulbs.

 

Allrigth... Problem solved! Everything is running perfectly now and I didn't have to do anything to led bulbs. Thanks ALAXFIRE!

BUT... There was one thing I noticed that I should have taken picture from. The cardboard list under the cover that shows fuse numbers was incorrect. It said that license plate light should be on "hole" number 6. I checked it and it wasn't broken. Then I started to check every fuse starting from 1 and finally found the broken one from "hole" 11 (same as SMOKEY847 did).

Is this common mistake or...?
And if it is... Is there any other known mistakes on "fuse manual"?

 

What I would suggest, and what many others on here did as well, is to just buy the Mercedes LED assemblies directly, and put those in instead of just LED bulbs.

Problems with the tail lights. Turn signals work, the tail and brake light not. The third brake light at the top of the hatch does work with the ignition on. Indicated fuse is okay. thanks Trvllr

The Fuse Block on the side of the Illumination Control Module houses the Fuses for the following:
Fuse 2. Brake Lamp
Fuse 3. Right High Beam/High Beam Indicator Lamp
Fuse 4. Reverse Lamp/Turn Signal Lamp/Rear View Mirror
Fuse 5. Left High Beam
Fuse 6. Right Low Beam
Fuse 7. Right Parking/Tail Lamp Side Marker
Fuse 8. Left Low Beam
Fuse 9. Fog Lamp
Fuse 10. Left Parking/Tail Lamp Side Marker
Fuse 11. License Plate/Instrument Cluster Lighting/Symbol Lighting

Thanks ala_xfire. Pulled and checked every fuse in the block. All good. Rear turn signals both work fine. The brake lights in the liftgate work. When the headlight switch is turned to the first position, the parking lights, side marker lights, license plate lights and instrument panel lights are all illuminated. But NOT the taillights. Pulled both bulbs, the dual filaments in each were fine. Other suggestions? thanks

 

I'm afraid you are down to metering wires/voltages/ground connections at this point.
If you haven't already, download the pdf repair manual for all the schematics.

You might get lucky with a member having a 200 BUT this is a Crossfire forum.
