I never open my mouth or get disrespectful but I just couldn't bite my tongue on this one. I told him he was full of **** and he either is a liar or doesn't know how to use his radar gun. He said if I say one more word we can go... I said go where? He got quiet like he realized he shouldn't have said that and I told him to shut up and go write me a ticket. I was surprised but he didn't say a word, just turned around and wrote the ticket and gave it to me. I would have loved to get out of the car and beat the brakes off that punk a$$ pig.
Why not ask to see the video? Or the radar display? Even the OLDEST radars had a lock feature and every partrol car in the metro area (and outside it, too) has had video recording equipment in it since the 90's.

Our officers down here in Spalding county won't do traffic stops without video backup anymore! (Not that they WON'T, they are not ALLOWED to - the video protects the officer and department as much as it protects YOU. Without that recording, there is no proof of what was said by the officer OR you. You DO know that everything you do and say is recorded by the carmera and his body mic, right?)

People live based on their feelings or emotions. The emotion wore off.

Think about it: ever been asked how you feel? Sure, now:

How many times do people ask you what you think?

I think the reason there is so much crimes is because there are so many laws. I mean how many kids now drink and party because they like being drunk and throwing up not many. Alot of kids under the age of 21 drink becuase they like to do something they are not allowed to. Its also the same with speeding, people do it because they like the thrill of breaking the law.

I disagree. Those are not crimes, those are civil infractions.

CRIMES are theft, murder, rape, assaults... etc.

(In other words, I kind of agree with you.)

I'm with you on the too many laws thing. I once asked a congressman, "after 230 years of making them, just how many more do you think we need?" He couldn't give me an answer.

But imagine, if you will, how hard it would be for some dumb @ss idiot to get a ticket, much less arrested, if he couldn't find a law to break?

It just would not be fair.

Of course, if we were all honest and respectful to each other, we wouldn't need any laws at all. You giving odds on that concept working?

I suppose that one could support your argument, but where do we begin? Do we debate the efficacy of constitutional law? How about any of the following: common law, federal law, state law, criminal law, civil procedure, contract law, tort law, or local laws? Which laws do you advocate that we abolished to reduce the current crime rate. What collateral effect do you anticipate by the abolishment of these laws? Or, do you purport that the absence of law in itself would affect the reduction in crime.

I think that an equal case could be made for debating the efficacy of our education system, and it's effect upon the crime rate. A system that is allowing our children to graduate high school without the most basic of skills to write a properly formatted sentence. As recently as 20 years ago the United States was ranked first among industrialized nations in the share of its population that has at least a high school degree. Today we are ranked ninth. Then we question why we have such a burgeoning penal system.

Having said this, does your hypothesis bear scrutiny? Hmmm, Lets see.... If we lived in a lawless society, we would have less crime. Well, I guess that would be true if your contention is that a crime is not committed if there is no law governing that action.

I gotta tell ya. I drive faster than the limit. I do it a lot. Not because there is a law but because I like to drive fast. Period

Been driving that way since I was 12

It has nothing to do with the law.

Just because you like to drive fast doesn't make it right. There is a time and a place for everything. The public highways are no place to be showing off how fast you can go. Take it to the track. If I was to use the same logic and change the subject you would see the problem I would hope. Lets say that I like target shooting. I like it so much I do it wherever I want to. No matter who was around or where I was at. The law says that I shouldn't except for around ranges and silly places like that because of the danger. I'll bet that you would be the first person to complain if you thought that I might endanger you or your family. It is not so much how fast you go most times it is the difference in speed between vehicles that causes some of the worst crashes. A lot of people out there are not as good as a driver as you apparently think you are and don't react to your fast moving vehicle as you might expect them to. I have been a professional Fire Fireghter for 25 years and never get used to seeing the carnage caused by people that flirt with the laws because they want to and have ben doing it that way since forever and nothing has ever happened. Your turn will come one day my friend and you will be the one who says why did that happen to me.

Excuse me. You must have just joined and do not know me well. So, please don't presume what I would do.

I said nothing about ***** nilly racing down city streets full of children. And yes, if you drove imprudently down my street you might be confronted by an old cogger wielding a shovel. There is an old saying "Don't screw with old guys, they would just as soon kill ya."

But we have many miles of Interstates designed for high speed travel with obscenely low speed limits. Most traffic commonly travels a bit above the speed limit. The county speed limit where I live is 55 unless posted otherwise. Some roads that's suicidal so safe and prudent is always the best policy.

Or are you suggesting that when the National limit was 55 you never went faster?

Yeah, right!

BTW, As I stated, if you knew me....I was a paramedic firefighter for many years. I saw plenty. The lesson; Speed doesn't kill, stupidity does.

Been driving 50 years. Not one speed related accident on my record.

To the point of this thread, if and when the officer pulls me over for pushing the limit, I am polite, respectful and thank him for being a professional. Don't do the crime if you won't pay the fine.

I have to agree with you all the way for a change on this one Franc, speed doesn't kill but that sudden stop sure can hurt a lot.

It usually takes two idiots to bend metal. So long as one of the two of us isn't, I stand a fair chance of coming home in my car, not a box.

Best driving advice I ever heard was from a professional truck driver who said, "A good driver doesn't worry about himself and his rig. He concerns himself with doing everything possible to help every driver he encounters get home safe."

Words to live by I would think.

Speaking of safety, what do I do when I am sitting at a red light and it goes green?

Red lights do not go green, they go off and a green light underneath turns on. The amber one in between causes confusion I have noticed.
Its just amazing what you can learn on this forum isn't it?

Tilt your head slightly to hold the cell phone on your shoulder,
Then,
Set your Big mac in your lap,
Then,
Put your Latte frappo.....whatever in the stupid cup holder, pull to first gear?!?

Then,
Observe conditions and proceed with caution.

C'mon guys! I'm gonna let this go till maybe this afternoon and see if I am the ONLY one who does this.

(*Well, I and Neal Boortz.)

I really AM serious - and I'll bet you BOTH do this, you just have been driving so long that it's second nature - to both of you.

(And I don't eat, drink, smoke or phart in my car.)

Maybe. With a screename like "Toughguy25" it seems there may be a little chip-on-the-shoulder action going on.

Best of luck with that attitude-it will take you a long ways. In the wrong direction, but a long ways...
