Bureaucracy in action, best laid plans of some good folks goes down the drain, 40,000 lbs of food for the good folks in Moore left to rot at the border.
Read this.

Appalling.

In the article:

Because U.S. President Barack Obama hasn't declared Moore, Okla., tornado a disaster area, the 52-foot trailer of goods is considered a commercial shipment rather than humanitarian aid.

Worth noting, Oklahoma was VERY red last November. Punishment?

You be the judge.

Praying for all of those affected, both last week and tonight.

I am afraid that you have a very poor opinion of your fellow Americans if you think that this is punishment. More than one person has a hand in declaring a state of emergency and if one person said no for such a reason there would be a whistle blown by someone.

I look on it as bureaucracy gone mad, rules ruling reason.

Agree. We should beware of paranoia when it's just people screwing up. I've been in the loop of command structures when a tornado hits and the aftermath. It is amazing how people simply fail to function properly due to stress; personal problems and overwhelm. Rigidity often trumps realistic responses in such conditions. Until you've been there it is easy to sniff up the wrong tree.

This is unlikely to be about politics but pure burocracy.

I have spent hours at the border going in because I was enering to conduct "business" not recreation.

But to be fair it works both ways.

Keep in mind goods and services are subject to tarrifs andhopefully inspections. It is how we protect our borders and often how we fund our treasuries.

Allthat said,,,,,,

Both nations do have government leaders who could have facilitated the crossing. Where were they in this? Likely layers and layers away in the burgoing burocracy and therefore seemingly guiltless.

Whether for revenge or simply incompetence, the fact still remains, the government was too large and immovable here to do the right thing. You are welcome to your own conclusions about the cause.

On the Thread topic; last night's tornadoes came close to us here in St. Peter's MO and passed directly over ERZR's place just east of us. He and his place ar fine, some tree and fence damage. His lovely wife and beautiful roadster are also fine.

My underground tornado shelter was installed in my garage today. They have been getting bigger every time approach OKC and the last 2 in May made the decision easy. Hope we never have to use it, but I will be content to climb in it once in a while and look at the bottom of my Crossfire.

That's what's so great about California...

If you have major Earthquake.... it's over before people can really panic.... and you come home and all your sh*t is left in a nice - neat little pile.... not scattered over 3 counties...
