As far as the support material, I would suggest Delrin (Acetal). You can buy scrap pieces on ebay and they machine really well.
I'll check that out. I think that's a hard plastic though. I'm thinking material just like Rob uses for spacer. It looks just like 3/4" horse stall matting to me; which is what I am considering for prototype. Better cushion. I'm going to swipe a small piece from my daughters mare and see how it tools.

I can't seem to find it now, but I remember seeing a picture in a post where a member did a side mount battery and had a meth tank in the remainder of the space. It looked really cool, and was a very clean implementation.

P1010139.JPGThis is as far as I got today. I'll work on fabbing the rubber floor tomorrow if I can find time between Honeydo's. I figured, why not just use the stock battery hold down. I just drilled the tack weld out (I know I said no new holes) but it's just (2) 1/4"holes in the batt. base that will be covered with the rubber floor, never to be seen again. Rob's spacer had to be slightly modified (1/4"cut off the negative end and holes to receive the red cap redrilled 3/8" back towards negative side) I'll check for terminal clearances, new length for ground cable, etc., tomorrow also, maybe. Honestly; it's not going anywhere just like that, but I want a rubber floor dang it! I guess depends on what size tank will go there. Might need the extra 3/4" perhaps; we'll see. Edit: That Silly Ricer looking/superhero decal on our Shurikens has got to go!

I'd like to see what kind/type of tank he used.

this is prolly the setup he used. 2 qt tank in the kit
The Best Water injection system and water methanol injection systems at AlcoholInjectionSystems.com

how do you plan to remount the holdowns? cant see the underside. the neg looks to close to the holdown to get the neg cable back on in the second pic. im not sure why you had to cut the spacer, if it fits in the oem setting it should fit turned with a longer cable right?

Now you are close to my set up...but haven't finished it yet...the wire type tie down flexes too much to hold the battery down tight...so, I used a piece of aluminum to hold them down...I am building a bottom plate to hold the pump, the meth tank, and the battery all in the old battery location....

To answer your questions; 1.) SS 1/4" bolt & locknut, with a slight recess in the rubber floor at the bolt head locations. 2.) You would install cables before securing the top of hold down. 3.) There's a 1/4" difference in dimension that way. It was a very tight/snug fit to squeeze the hold down posts together and get the threaded rod through the hold down top. It was necessary to trim 1/4" as I mentioned before. It fits like a glove. 4.) IMHO, when I finish routing and installing the floor, this set up would pass the 6' ladder drop test. It might crack the batt. but it won't come out of the hold down. Meth tank is down the road for me, but look forward to seeing what Doc has going on.

Just checked out that AIS website. I'm sure liking that new rounded 3qt. competition tank. With a little effort I think that could work real nicely in our new space.

I asked Rob about this battery a while ago and I'm still interested in this battery but maybe some of you can help me with this. Do any of you drive your car year round and in cold weather with this battery? If so how does it fair in the weather?

rob is in detroit so he could prolly answer better. i will say i dont drive mine much and needed a flaot charger to keep it charged as the static drain will kill the shuriken in less than 2 weeks. with the float charger i have had zero issues.

X2 ^^ , I also use a batt. minder. I don't get the real cold like you all, but one time i was parked in the rain having conversation with a friend and ran the defroster fan for about 20-30 min.'s and then was stranded. Not much reserve. I just learned not to do that again. Will start up engine occasionally if that happens again.

I asked Rob about four months ago and he said that he has never used his all year round yet. He did also say that it should be good if the car is driven daily but I'm not sure if I wanna take the risk on it.

Ours is not a DD (maybe once a week, sometimes two weeks go by) and sometimes I forget to plug in the batt.minder and have never had a problem. But like I said, we don't get that cold here.

I'm on hold since talking to Rob, on whether to use the meth or not...and no I went with another kit...I know exactly how I want to do it, but until we have the blue one updated with the gauges to see where I am, I am just on hold...

my kit came from here: www.coolingmist.com

P1010143.JPG Finally got around to getting the rubber floor project done. I need to tell you that rubber was never meant to be routered!(I kind of knew that though) Smoke was in the air, the smell of burning rubber thick. After doing the first one, I just had to figure a better way, so I put the second one in the freezer hoping to get a little more working time. It helped a lot, but still a bit of smoke. The new space is intended for meth tank and pump, but this is down the road a ways. Oh, the stock batt. cable worked just fine. Had to bend the neg. side eyelet (that bolts to chassis) flat and the length couldn't have worked out any nicer. I recommend heating it up w/ torch before bending it flat so it doesn't crack from fatigue. I also cut down about half the height of the ground cable accessory ground stud for better clearance from the hold down top.

About 2.75#. I would have used 1/2" lighter weight rubber material if I did over again. This 3/4" stable mat is what I had around. High density EVA material would be lighter.... or, what is that material that you use? If you'd like one, send me a piece and I'll see how well it routes. Make it 7"x10 11/16". Also, if and when I do the tank and pump addition, I'd be cutting out more of the material to recess these to key into place.
