how many miles on your xfire? major problems?
I just bought an '04 with 80k miles. Runs great. Have only had it a couple of weeks. Seems to be leaking some oil. I am hoping it is just the drain plug. Dealership changed oil right before I bought it. I'm not sure that they put synthetic oil in it. Could this be an issue?
replaced rear differential due to harmonic @ 70mph. done at 3k miles (under warranty). known issue with some xfires. rcm on black @ 510 miles! (under warranty) also, known issue on some xfires. no cps or pump issues yet.
2004 Coupe.... currently 38,876 miles ( and a daily driver ) LOL I walk a LOT, as it is ALWAYS parked at the end of the parking lot!!!!

Bought mine with 18,000 and now 37,000. no complaints no problems yet. The battery seems to be getting tired and I had to replace a set of tires. I am in love with mine!

2004 coupe bought in july from the first owner with 64,xxx , just hit 70,000 today actually no problems just had to replace battery and something like a ball joint or a tie rod end ( cant remember) back in october (my fault because i hit a fox going 70)
2005 Coupe. 56,850 miles. It had 56,123 when I bought it last month.
Nothing major. Had to fix the housing for the ignition key 'cause the steering wheel was STUCK.
Also, getting a Check Engine light sometimes. P0410, the air pump. So, I put a piece of black tape over the light until I can take a look at the problem!

2007 Limited Coupe with 10,100 miles on the ODO. Had 1500 miles when I bought it OCT/2008.
Only issue was the oil leak around the breather covers mounted on the valve covers. Fixed it just before ToD XFire event last October.

I have a xfire '05 ltd. coupe with 56K that I bought in Houston from a Nissan dealer in 2010. No real problems, except there is a chemical smell inside the car that seems to increase when the car is closed up for long periods. It smells like a cleaner or chemical maybe used to lubricate or clean the carpet or seats.
I've tried to get rid of it with sprays and even leaving the windows done inside the garage, but it keeps coming back. I am also coming up on my first oil and filter change and need some advice on who to get to do it. Some folks have said don't use the local Chrysler dealer because they don't understand the car.

If you don't want to do it yourself, I would take it to the local mechanic, if you're comfortable with him. It's always best if you can do it yourself, but if not, that's OK, too.

Dhollin,
Glad you joined. As far as oil changes, if you don't want to do it yourself, then find someone local that works on Mersedes or BMWs. It's not hard but they have to do it correctly. Get the oil filters that are made in Germany ( Mann brand) and use the Mobil 1 0W40 grade. In a pinch you could maybe use 5W40 Mobil 1, but that's your choice. Do a search for oil changes, Mobil1, or oil filters and all this should come up.
Great little cars, never thought I would love it so much. I put in a Black mesh grille, some new emblems, some wheel graphics, have some lighted door sills on order. Also bought some bigger brakes for the front (SRT6) with calipers, I'm going to overhaul the calipers, flush the system, etc.

mjd, you're gonna love the 6 but forget about the great milege you got with the N/A. My Srt gets worse milege than my Cadillac. It might be that I'm always goosing the little screamer.
I've got 13.5K. I had a trans leak. The service guy screwed up some things but I can't count that. I should have used a quote on that last post. It looks a little out of place.

Nothing is harder on MPG than the need for speed. The SRT surely delivers.

By referencing the Mann oil filters, we're indicating to use the fleece-type filter element, not the paper. Fleece-type will be more expensive. You can get these from several sources, with NAPA or WIX being a couple. Mann most likely supplies these to NAPA & WIX. Purolator also sells this design and Advance Auto handles it along with Purolator's paper-type version. As stated before, search around this Forum and you'll find folks that have found these filters at reasonable prices.
Will the paper-type element harm your XFire? If you're going to change your oil every 3000 miles or so, probably isn't a factor. If you're going to let the car's monitoring system tell you to change the oil at the 7000 mile interval, then I'd use the fleece-type.
Regarding the 5w40 Mobil 1 ESP Formula as a viable substitute for the original 0w40 that was used in the XFire, the 5w40 oil may actually be a better quality oil since its chemistry has been upgraded compared to the 0w40. I use the 0w40 Mobil 1 product (and probably most XFire Owners follow suit) because Pep Boys & Walmart still handle the product. But I believe the 0w40 will disappear one of theese days as the 5w40 ESP Formula is being pushed by Mobil 1.

My 2006 LTD roadster has 8,300 miles, no problems yet. I'm going to replace the battery in a few weeks, maybe before the 15th GTG. Has had no problems.

Since its the same engine, it stands to reason that the same intervals apply to the Crossfire. Paper filters good for the full 7k mile interval. Fleece if you want to go further, or don't mind spending more money.
