Default Misfire on cylinder 3

Well I am having random idling problems and my check engine light came on yesterday. A quiz trip to autozone pulled the code misfire on cylinder 3.

So i'm wondering if anyone else has had a problem like this? I searched and read about the random idling problems but i haven't gotten multiple cylinder misfires, just cylinder 3. As of right now I have the TVT 260 (i think that was the number...heh) i have the CAI and MB engine cover, not the modded stock.

The light went back off eventually and has been running fine since. I figure it can't hurt to replace the spark plugs with some nice NGK and I'll check to make sure the injectors are all seated properly even though this seems like a stretch. Anyone else have any recommendations?

Awesomely enough my warranty just ran out! 38k on the clock.

EDIT: btw this is a n/a 2006 coupe with the auto trans.

I would check the connection at the injector first....those things are a bugger to get on if you don't get the clip in the right groove.

there is a tech tip out on this it might help might not.... If you have a malfunctioning ignition coil for cylinder number 3 in a Crossfire equipped with engine controller p/n 68027422AA, replace the engine controller, ignition coil (5098138AA) and fuse number 11

Thanks for the replies, definitely going to check the injectors. And soward, i reallllly hope you're wrong.

on another note it's been a few thousand miles since i put the tvt kit on, which could be enough time for something to work its way loose if I did miss an injector clip or something stupid like that.

Just a little update. I'm letting the engine cool down right now so i can pull the plugs and check them, and clean any that need it. The problem is very odd, if it idles rough when i crank it up then it won't accelerate well at all, stumbles and has no power (obviously still misfiring) but if i turn the car off long enough to run into quiznos and come back out it'll run fine (and the CEL is still on from before). Power comes back and zero issues, so it's either there or it's not, no middle ground.

Go back and check all the plugs on the wiring harnesses going in to the top of your ECU. If they are not seated all the way down, it will create that problem. I found out the hard way. Re-seat all 4 connectors and make sure they snap down tight.

well thank god for nice weather. Went out to check the plugs on the injectors to find that the screws holding the rail down were loose as **** and two injectors weren't even close to seated properly. I'm guessing I was too careful when I installed them (and it was below freezing when i did it as well).

anyway i fixed it and so far so good, so consider this fixed unless I come back and complain more!

I'm so glad I'm not the only one that learns stuff the hard way.

Agree 100 % with dan Remove all plugs from the ECU. Blow on them to remove any dust and reset them. I had the engine light on and took it to the dealer. It was showing misfire on cylinders 1,3 and 4. The dealer called me and said the ECU needed to be replaced, but they couldn't send it to Chrysler bacause of the tune by LET. I called Jerry and he told me to do the above. I did it where the car was parked in the back parking lot of the dealer. Bingo. No more rough idle. and no more engine light.

The mechanic told me there was a TSB if cylinder 3 was misfiring and to replace the ECU. Not.

Having the same issue with cylinder #3..Started pulling codes right after I let the tank go low.....have put some injector cleaner through it but think I'm going to suffer with this until I get more mileage on it....Hoping this tank will flush things out...Going to pull the plugs and check for any crap on them.....Thanks to Woody for that article...
Have to drive to Nova Scotia soon and want this fixed beforehand...

just so you know my problem was the fuel rail screws simply weren't put in tight enough by my half retarded mechanic (ok so i did it myself...it was about 0degrees outside and i didn't want to overtighten into aluminum). I retightened it after making this thread and never had another problem...but the car is totaled now.

Ran well for a week....drove to plaistow NH (for those locals) maybe 20 miles from home ran fine.....Came out of the store started the car backed out of the space and the code light went on again....ran rough all the way home.........Think I'm going to start with replacing the plugs....Can anyone tell me which plug is #1 and which way they're numbered left to rgiht or vice versa.....From what I've read so far...this isn't going to be fun...

Ps saw my 3rd Xfire on the road Thursday...Rt $95 headed to Rt 20 (I think) Black...pulled up behind me just before taking the exit..........

OK...learned something new...#1 will be the forward most cylinder...nver payed attention to that before...never realized there was a "forward" cylinder....At this point it looks like my process is going to be changing the #3 plugs...then if that doesn't fix it I'll try swapping the coil modual for that cylinder with another and see if the problem moves to the other cylinder...

Default Re: Misfire on cylinder 3 Update

so far:
Swapped coilpacks-no change, pulled the plugs- looked fine, check the injector wires for cracks-looked fine...
Stopped by a local vintage Mercedes repair shop...he said could be the fuel distributor failing to #3..once I told him that after a shutoff-on the problem typically went away...that floored him...
Back to ground zero
At this point I am going to pull it into my garage...remove the hood and start looking from scratch......not sure what to do anymore....but now the misfire is continual and no longer "clears itself"........comments always welcome.......
