Default How to stop roof alarm

Hi, my first post this may have been answered before.

I can't get the convertible roof light switch to stop flashing.
The roof is up and locked in place but the light in the roof switch keeps flashing and when the car is moving at about 20kph the alarm keeps going off and the light flashes in sink.
I have tried several time to open the roof wait a few minutes and put the roof down again but doesn't fix the problem!!! I'm in Australia and it's an 05 Crossfire Convertible.
Any suggestions or ideas would be appreciated.

Cheers,
Ossie

There was a guy a couple years ago that was getting beeps from his.. he didn't mention the light blinking.. but I suggested pulling the battery cable for about 5 minutes.. (lets computers reset).. and he reported success.. freebie to try.. LOL.

This message thread covered a similar issue.

Good people,

I had thought about posting this on the huge convertible top sensor thread that I find eminently more helpful than even the factory service manual for understanding the Crossfire convertible top operation. That is a MUST READ. However, my problem now is more akin to this old thread. Currently, the top opens and closes fine. When the top is down the light and beeping alarm are off/silent, respectively. When I push the "top up" button, the tonneau cover unlatches and raises, the top goes up, the rear window folds up to clear the tonneau cover descending, the tonneau cover descends and locks into place, the rear window bow descends, locks into place and the alarm beeps to indicate full end of cycle. AS SOON AS I GRAB THE D RING and start to pull the roof down toward the latch system over the windshield the system starts beeping and flashing. It starts beeping just as I begin to pull it down even when the top is still 4-5 inches away from the front top latch. When I latch it and turn the D ring back to its fully closed resting place, the system continues to beep and flash. Of course, it does it as I drive as well.

When I turn the D ring and raise the top six inches to begin the "top down" sequence the beeping stops and the top folds down as normal. No more beeping/flashing.

Any ideas?

Pizzaguy and Klaus have been super helpful in helping me troubleshoot my sensors (I had one confirmed bad one on the rear bow latch mechanism which was swapped out which has the bow latch functioning again). I have confirmed the top open sensor to be functional using an ohm meter. The system starts screaming even before the front latches touch the front latch switch. I have tried the re-learn procedure. I have even disconnected the battery for over an hour hoping that would make the system forget anything/all things, but still have this problem.

Might any of you have any ideas?

Many thanks,
John (in Pretoria, South Africa)

Have you tried cycling it manually a few times?

Yes, I have tried the manual reset by raising then lowering the roof fully down to locking/unlocking the rear bow latch while the car is running. Thought that would address it, but it didn't.

Hopefully Pizzaguy will chime in.

Thanks, Ze. I hate to bother him, you or anyone else, but I am stumped. And I see from this thread that others had the same problem, but with no obvious resolution.

Think of how the system works logically. When you pull the top down to meet the windshield frame, the "top open" switch above the passenger's head opens. This tells the top controller that you have latched the top to the frame (or are in the process of doing so). It is beeping because there is a sensor somewhere indicating that it is not appropriate to latch the top, that is, in the mind of the controller, the cycle did not complete.

What gets me when this happens, is that the sensor apparently DID indicate that the rear bow latch is latched, because the sensor told the pump to quit running. Since that is the last sensor needed to complete the cycle, how can there be anything wrong here? If the trunk latch sensor was at fault, the top pump would never have even started up. If the electric trunk lock sensor was at fault, the top pump would have never started up.

It stands to reason that if ANY sensor acted up, the controller would become confused and stop running, or so it seems to me. I wonder about the travel sensor on the rear bow latch. It seems to me that lubricating the rear bow latch (underside of tonnaue cover) has resolved this at least once. It's almost as if the latch sensor indicates '"latched, stop the pump!", then, as soon as the pump stops, the latch becomes "unsettled" and tells the controller, 'The bow is not secure after all."

My first suspect is the rear bow latch. We KNOW something is telling the controller that something is not right. And we know that it does not do it in the "lowered" position. My first guess is the rear bow latch. "Shamrock" once lubricated that latch and cleared his problem, which I think was "light flashes and it beeps when the top is up". If it was not him, it was SOMEONE on here...................

I stand in awe at how you know this stuff. It seems that just as I start tugging down on the D ring is when the car starts beeping/flashing. When the top is pushed up from the latch retainer and resting about six inches above the latch retainer, the beeping stops and the top opens normally. But as soon as I pull down on the D ring to close the roof, it starts beeping. So what Pizzaguy says is that this tugging forward may be tripping the rear bow latch sensor.

When I replaced that sensor I tried hard to put the sensor in the same location as the old one. (There is a little vertical movement where the switch mounts to the latch mechanism.) It could be that I didn't mount it high enough. Meaning the slight tension of pulling the D ring trips the sensor.

Good grief -- even I can understand that! Thanks, Pizzaguy. Will give that a shot and report back.

John

Had time today to fiddle with the roof. Found out that the problem isn't the rear bow latch sensor. In fact, the beeping starts when the top open sensor is activated. Here is a short video I made showing the fault

I will re-read the advice here and see if I can't figure it out more. Thanks, John
