She's dead again
That is not what I was questioning. Most Crossfires have had the CPS replaced. Most Crossfires have had the RCM replaced including mine. Thing is, if your away from home and the car gives you trouble it can be a long tow. Why tow it when you can fix it with a $60 part in the glove box? If you intend to keep the car for a few more years, or take a trip out of state it is well worth the investment in an RCM and a CPS as spares. It is not a question of "if', but a question as to when either will fail. Now if you are always within a stones throw of the house, no problem.

Some people have replaced the CPS when there was nothing wrong with it that is like replacing a throttle body just in case it fails due to its age.
My philosophy is if it ain't broke leave it alone.
I mentioned the CPS going out on my car just because you brought it up, wasn't implying I wouldn't carry one because i changed it. I don't trust new parts any more anyway, seeing how everything is outsourced and quality suffers.
far as taking a long trip in this car, I'm not that much of a gambler.
and even if i was 5 miles from home, still rather have a spare than walking or waiting for a ride. I wasn't arguing about carrying spares, it's a fine idea for cars this age with known issues.

more info, i made an assumption the traction relay worked on the bench due to the clicking sounds i heard when sending power to the solder joints on the back side of the board. Bad assumption. turns out what i heard was the engine control relay, i assume the ECM relay? in the 3rd position. they must be wired in parallel.
so the traction relay coil must be bad, as it does not snap shut.
more on this later..

I drove my Graphine home, 2200 miles, from AZ to GA.
I drove my SE home 475 miles from FL to GA.
Just two weeks ago, I drove my SE 380 miles one way for a job interview.
We hold meets at Woodward, The Dragon, Eureka Springs and Carlisle - to name just the 'big ones', each year. We have some people who drive for THREE DAYS to attend some of these events, yet you are no "gambler"?
You have been told what the issue is. DJ has offered to fix your RCM (as he has done of so many of us, I doubt HE knows how many he has fixed).
You refuse all help - you are creating your own nightmare. Your "gambler" post above makes you look ignorant, silly even.
Yet you don't see it. Personally, trying to help people like you is still fun for us, but honestly, it's a waste of time.
Sell the car, you will be happier.

wow, not sure where that came from.. did you see post #47? i agree with you guys, found the problem and already fixed it. the car runs and drives fine.
but that doesn't mean i have to trust it.
regarding RCM repair, it is a PITA because the relay bodies suck all the heat from the soldering iron before the solder wick has a chance to work. you need a really powerful iron to get this job done, but also take care to not overheat the board. the other option is cut the relay off with a dremel cutoff wheel to reduce the heatsink effect of the relay body.
even though i was stubborn and wanted the experience of repairing the RCM myself, I would highly recommend sending off to Tighed1 for repair.
and as I mentioned previously in post #39, thank you all who helped me solve this, I really appreciate it and couldn't have done it without your help.

Haven't read it in recent memory.
So does this mean you are coming to the Fall Dragon? Or maybe Eureka SPrings, Arkansas in June?
(Charlie just cancelled the SNake next month....)
I'll buy you a drink - I'll be at both, unless SARS2 takes me out by then (which is a slight possibility).

Well, I'd assume it will be better in June/July/August.
THen in the fall/winter, the virus comes around again and we all go nuts one more time......
