Sometimes when the starter does nothing the problem lies with starter failure.

Remember, when starters fail cars fail to start. 😉

I agree with that.

But I still wonder if there was ever a completion of the tests suggested by Pizzaguy in Post #22. Were any voltage measurements ever made to answer question number 1 in Post #22? Sorry if I've missed seeing them. This is an interesting thread.
Low voltage may make the starter try to engage but not turn over...or as you said "the problem lies with starter failure".

I'd assume you are hearing the solenoid on the starter engage. Sounds like the solenoid or starter is bad - a rare failure but it can happen.
Just one thing, close that relay and measure voltage at the starter - yes AT THE STARTER. If it is at least 10-11 volts, replace the starter.
If it is very low, you have a cable or battery or connection issue.

When was the last time you put in a new car battery?

Battery was new in July 2019.

I did not do the voltage measurements in post #22 as I'm not sure how to do it. As mentioned before, I'm not even close to being a mechanic. I don't have a service manual and am not even sure I could properly read it. I'm trying to test what I can and just relaying the results to all of you for feedback, which I appreciate very much. I'm sorry I can't provide information that would be more helpful.

I did do the test of the pulse module as Pizzaguy suggested (see post #39). Before I did this I was not hearing the loud click at the starter. After I did it I tried to start the car normally, with the key, and heard the same loud click. I don't think I was getting the click before. Why would it start now? Seems to me that Pizzaguy's explanation of starter or solenoid failure makes sense.

In response to Pizzaguy and onehundred80;
Now I know that the links below are not exactly the same as mlister, but earlier in the thread when I first suggested the fuse nine we did not have all the info we do now, and doubt the members in the links below knew the difference between the anti theft alarm module and the Skreem, BUT their cars were not starting and then after pulling fuse nine (some had diagnostic of bad SKREEM modules) they did start their cars and move on. These are only three of several who have had similar experience of pulling fuse nine and getting their cars to start. So do not tell me pulling fuse nine in some, not all, no start situations will not get a Crossfire started. Why this is a solution depends on circumstance ( water in trunk area) but a bad siren can be one of several reasons. I refuse to accept the premise a bad siren can not cause a Crossfire to not start.
There is also a forum member who owns crossfires, makes his living as an auto tech who has experienced a bad siren causing a no start situation; read post six in the SKREEM and PCM link.

Here are just three links to forum members who pulled fuse nine and got their cars stared;

I think you're doing pretty well diagnosing your issue. You may be at the point where you could give your information to a local independent Mercedes mechanic and let them look at it.

Here are a few more links you could look at just to educate yourself a little more about the starter issues. It would be nice if you could be absolutely sure that it isn't a battery issue. I know you said the battery is only a year old....

If it was a battery issue would jumping the car from another vehicle provide the necessary voltage to start the car?

Your 'post' originally says the wire runs up and into the console? If this is correct...

Maybe, just maybe, it is time to check the connections to the RCM pigtails? Had a problem with three of 5 here ( https://www.crossfireforum.org/forum...sue-alone.html ). Couldn't hurt to see if this is an issue?
