07 Crossfire overheating!
Hello guys,
I have purchased 07 XF few weeks ago.
car was running fine, I haven't touched anything yet.
Today when I was driving on highway w some traffics, I have noticed temp gauge was reaching slightly over 50%, which usually stays around 46~8%. I turned on A/C on then I heard fan running and temp went down to normal. I wasn't sure so I tested few times, temp was keep trying to rise if I turned a/c off.
So... heres some Qs need to be ruled out..
1. Does XF uses 2 fans? 1 for cooling, 1 for ac?
2. Assuming XF is using 1 fan, and if fan runs on AC, it means fan and fan module or fuse is all fine.. then what could the problem be?
3. No warning lights lights are on, connected reader to see if there's anything pending, nope.

Please check attached photo and confirm.
Hmmmmmmm its getting very very stressful now. I can drive with ac on all time to make sure preventing overheat,, but it cant be a solution..
That is all normal, I don't think you have a problem, but if you want to be sure get TorquePro for your smartphone and
a relevant bluetooth OBDC dongle, or get an ultragauge like I have run for 8 years now.
You can get the ultragauge in non-bluetooth or bluetooth for around $80. I prefer the non bluetooth :

If you want to be sure everything's good you might want to change your thermostat and flush and replace the coolant especially if it's original . Most vehicles that are + 15 years old probably needs all the fluids change . It's not a waste of money but required service. There is also a products to add to your coolant one is called wetter water which lowers your operating temp maybe 10%. If you have a auto lower temps are better.

Before you wast money ,,here is what u should see,,,,,,, normal or hottest it should be ,is one needle width above the half mark. the fan will or should turn on when needed when AC is on fan is needed. the fan runs at different speeds u may only notice the fan at high speed because at high speed it is noisy ,

I'm guessing I'm running bit hot but not overheating so far (w ac off it is fluctuating between 199 and 202 when idling. About needle width above 1/2 mark) I'm planning to take it to shop and get a coolant flush with maybe thermostat change if needed. Upper rad hose felt hot and pressurized so I believe thermostat opens up when needed but just want to make sure. Its still funny that it never went up to this temp. Maybe I haven't noticed or didn't have a chance since I turn on heaters pretty often with ac on? Hmm anyways.. thank you all for your inputs!

Depends on the shop, I don't trust shops that have kids working on your car but I think you can trust most reputable shops. You can always specify a antifreeze that is a different color than the one that's in your car. I've seen green, blue , orange etc.
that way you know it's been changed .

don't go to a dealer unless you have to.. other members have gone to the ones in the repair shops above and they should give u a discount if ask for and they are suppose to know what top do on the crossfire(same as a mercedes c320 1999 to 2002)

Mercedes Coolant/Antifreeze Pink (1 Gallon) - Genuine Mercedes Q1030005 This fluid comes from Mercedes undiluted (100% strength). We recommend mixing this coolant with distilled water in a 50/50 coolant/water mix for most climates, for cold climates you will be better served mixing this coolant in a 60/40 coolant/water mix.
I wonder how many Crossfire's are driving around with an anti freeze that is not recommended and in fact may be harmful to the car.
Why buy something just because it is cheaper than a recommended fluid, I used Zerex G-05, this is yellow. The original fluid was the Mercedes fluid and it was blue. I flushed my system really well and when I looked at the fluid it was greenish, there must have been just enough blue in the system to change the colour, it is now changed to the yellow colour.
The fluid has to have the correct chemical composition and concentration, normally 50/50 to protect the engine, the colour is of no consequence. The coolant should comply with the MB325.0 specification.

Check/change your air filters. My car runs cooler after I change them so maybe your filters are clogged. I change mine every year.

A lot of the 'specifications' written by manufacturers are primed to lure people into higher priced selective markets in cooperation with car manufacturers. It also 'scares' ppl into taking the car to the dealer to perform services easily done in a DIY environment. Oils, antifreeze, bulbs, air/oil filters, OEM parts vs aftermarket... The list goes on. Just what in a MB engine/radiator cooling system requires only OEM recommended antifreeze? People see an all aluminum engine and rubber hoses mostly. Heater core/lines, same thing. Valves 'O' rings, same? Please lets see what will 'degrade' if a universal grade Prestone is used (either 50/50 or concentrate)? No 'wiki' pages, just a simple question!
