Thank C*** for this forum.
I got quoted 800 bucks by a garage for the part alone (steering damper). This after they misdiagnosed my front bearings as needing replacement (two other places have said no way and they're perfect). 600 for each other those.
So one place almost got me for 2 grand that now looks like 60 bucks thanks to this forum and ebay.

Man! And I thought I was getting a good deal for my 100.00 deductable. Mine was starting to leak and had it replace by the dealer and they showed the part for 700 bucks! I am most definatly going to order from the Mercedes dealer from now on!!
Bought one from ebay.... How could I missed this thread till now? I've problem with the steering for a while... can't wait to haev it installed.
I got mine delivered today and will install it tomorrow.
800 bucks for this is insane. I'm looking it over and it really isn't a complicated part at all.

anybody have any experience on how long the new stabilizers will last? i just bought mine from the online store, ordered 2 of them figuring I'd save some shipping cost anyway, and I ordered 3 of the paper filters at the same time. Should have ordered the cabin air filter too but forgot it before I checked out. Will this one then last alot longer than the first one, or do they all go about the same time. otherwise I can certainly sell the extra one I'd ordered. thanks guys.

The reason I ask because I don't think it was the stabilizer's fault in my case. I just changed mine, but both the new and old stabilizers feel about the same. require about the same amount of force to move.
Changing the stabilizer didn't fix the free play problem on my steering wheel. I was looking at the steering mechanism, the shaft attached to the steering wheel can turn freely for a few degrees (about an inch or so on the rim of the steering wheel), and does not move the pitman arm (while the engine is off). I think something is loose in the steering box, Anyone have ideas? Would it be some simple DIY fix, or require to send to the shop? and how much it cost to fix? Thanks.

I see no written in stone mileage change time on them. Some owners say 12,000, some say 18,000, some never change them. The dealer price is obscene and should should be investigated. I ordered one fom Amazon and it was $27.80 including shipping with no state tax. I also bought one from Auto Zone for $35.00, no shipping but 8.25% sales tax.
The one I changed looked good, but after a week or so the leak appeared. The two new ones and the old original were all manufactured in the same plant in Germany, with diff names stamped on the bodies. I am going to order two more from Amazon at that price now that I have two cars, but the same part # is listed for more than 100 models Mercedes. It's only a 5-10 minute job to change it and a couple of pieces of 2x10s to drive the car on to raise it a little. Be sure to turn the steering wheel a few inches to clear the pitman arm
