Default Transmission Fluid Leak w/ pictures

I've noticed puddles forming on the driveway that did not appear to look like oil, but still had a slimy consistency to it. I have an '05 with an automatic transmission. I am familiar with this bulletin ( http://www.wkjeeps.com/misc/LX/TSB_3...B_2100205A.pdf ) but don't know much about the XF from a transmission standpoint. The picture was taken facing towards the back of the car, and the fluid is most prominent on the front passenger side of the transmission fluid pan (as the bulletin points out). Just curious if this really is what I think it is and if anyone has prior experience with this issue. Any help is greatly appreciated!!!

It's probably the o-rings. See here.

Here is the video from that thread.

Yes, Travish nailed it in the above post. Many of us have been there, done that. I can only add, that if you're doing this without a lift, and doing it on the ground and front up on ramps; you can jack it up further and real high on the rgt. side (passenger), and you'll only lose a couple tablespoons of ATF during the R.&R. procedure. Remember to use safety jacks or cribs! You can do this.

Thanks for the replies, but as much as I hate suggesting it, I think I will be taking it to a dealer. The car is pushing 75k miles, that way they can fix the leak and do the recommended maitmence at the same time. Not to mention the ice cold weather here doesn't make anything easier.

Why are you taking it to a dealer? I'd take it to some local shop, preferably known for Mercedes experience. Of course, if you are fortunate enough to have a Mercedes dealer that WILL work on it - then you are way ahead.

But if you are taking it to a Chrysler dealer, well, it's your money and time. I sure hope you have a lot of both, cause I see a Dr. Phil moment coming for you....

I hear you loud and clear pizzaguy, but I have a buddy who used to work at Mercedes who is both familiar with the issue and is replacing the o-rings, electric connecter and all new transmission fluid for $109. I would do it myself but I'm a little worried I would let all the fluid spill out when pulling the connecter out.

At $109 that's a great deal, I don't blame you.

now is the ideal time to do the transmission service which is recommended every 40k miles, it includes fluid, filter and a new data cable plug/oring along with the gaskets and dipstick you will need.

Originally you told us that you were probably going to bring it to a dealer, so Pizzaguy's post was a valid one. Your buddy will be good to have around for you; the fluid and connector alone will probably cost the $109. Depending on the miles, you may want to consider dropping the pan and replacing the trans filter.

Looks like Rob (above) just beat me to the punch.

I am getting ready to do the fluid change and spotted seepage from these two rectangular plugs just ahead of the transmission pan. Help me as to what is going on here and how to stop the seepage.
