Well I think Max got something - the letter says it is not a safety issue but clearly states it is defective. How well do you think a letter from the NHTSA stating the rear windows are defective will hold up in court or even for bargaining with Chrysler. This isnt a letter from Joes auto upholstery and convertible top shop - it is a government agency in charge of automobile safety stating that the roofs are defective. I wish you luck but I think this is a great step forward even if it doesnt give you a recall.
Attention all owners in Silicon Valley area with loose rear windows.
I just picked up my Crossfire from Normandin Chrysler with my new top. Steve Rodgers, Service & Parts Director, got Chrysler to pay for almost the entire cost. I had to pay only $200 for the new top. Understand some are paying as much as $650 for their share. They had my car for three weeks, also fixed oil leaks under warranty.
So first get a Chrysler Case Number, go to Chrysler.com, go to tab for Owners, then at bottom of page under Contact Chrysler click on Customer Care and send them an email complaining about your loose window. They will email you back a Reference Number and an Email Case Number. The Reference Number is actually the Case Number, don't ask me why.
After you get a Case Number take it to Normandin Chrysler Service Department. First you need to speak with Kevin Burton, the service writer for Crossfires, then ask to speak with Steve Rodgers, Service Director, and ask him nicely to contact Chrysler for you.
I purchased my Crossfire new, online from a dealer in Auburn, Washington and it was shipped directly to me in San Jose, CA by truck. That dealer couldn't do anything for me because it was one of those dealers closed by Obama administration. The car has never been in any of the eight states covered by the X31 warranties.

SJ,
Thanks for your post and congrats on your new top. Mine is in the shop as we speak and I hope to get it back Tuesday. Mine was also not from one of the eight approved states. When I calmly made my case they were willing to listen and now they are going to help with the cost. By the way I think it helps if you explain your Chrysler loyalty. In my case this was my 6th Chrysler in the past 20 years (3 Grand Cherokees and 2 Wranglers). Good luck to all those out there with the same state exclusion issues. Keep working on it and don't give up. My first case manager(Sherri and her supervisor Rosie) wouldn't give me the time of day. I called Chrysler to complain about them and got a new case manager assigned who was willing to listen to the facts. If this doesn't turn into a full extension for all states I will be very surprised.

Yes TOIA6407 mentioning being a loyal Chrysler customer might be helping.
I did mention that I currently own three Chrysler vehicles, but incorrectly mentioned that I had over the years purchased 10 Chrysler vehicles. I remembered later the correct number was 11 Chrysler vehicles.
How much are you being charged for your top?

For the warranty work -
I found a dealership (Gossett) in Memphis who has multiple technicians with Crossfire certification, and has replaced several Crossfire tops. The service rep told me without hesitation that they send the car to one independent shop in Memphis for this work.
The service rep said I'd need to bring the car in to let them take photos, which they'll send to Chrysler. If Chrysler determines the glass to be adequately separated (my wording), they approve, then send the new top to the dealership. Then I have to take the car back for the work. For a OEM quality top at no cost to me, I can certainly do that.
For those of you who have had this done already, does this describe basically the process you went through? Did Chrysler deny any of you who were covered by the extended warranty, because the window was not adequately separated? I've already repaired both ends, and the result is beautiful, but since summer, the entire lower edge is separating, and a portion is open enough that all the rain on the window can pour in.
I've seen no real negative comments from those of you who have gotten this work done under warranty. Anybody sorry they let the dealership have it to get the top replaced?
Thanks,
Michael

I took mine to the dealer with the letter and service manager there said "Sorry - I see no problem with your rear window"
I had to agree with that, as I have no separation, so I asked about the wear spots in the fabric.
Reply there was " Why don't you cause some rear window separation, bring it back in a month and we will replace the top."
Haven't decided yet what to do ........
( I can probably cause separation by driving with top up and driver's window down - it sure does gyrate a lot in that situation above 60 MPH )

Michael M - That is basically the procedure. My dealer also sent the installation out to an auto upholstery shop.
Alaxfire - Why not wait until the rear window separates? You have until 100,000 miles or ten years. That way you get an even longer time with your replacement top.

Alex, SJCrossfire,
Thanks for the responses. It seems that all you have to do is drive to cause the separation. It's good to hear the dealer service rep say that, though. Maybe not entirely honest, but at least there's no push back from doing the work. I think mine will qualify by nearly any standard. It would have if the repair with Window Weld had not turned out so well.
I did like the tone/attitude of the service rep, so will probably try to get this done early JAN.

Is there any news regarding Chrysler addressing the folding problems on the roadster tops? Mine only has 33,000 and not only do I have the center mark....but also two symetrical markings have appeared rear of that on either side.
I read the letter that came with the extended warranty of the top/window. It stated that if you have already replaced the WINDOW due to the adhesive that the warranty will reimberse you. If you HAVE A PROBLEM they will repair it under warranty. It does not cover replacement if you don't have a problem.

Got mine last week. No cost.. They took pictures and I waited three week. No word. So I went back in and they SAID they had lost the pictures and would need to re take them. I was not happy. But they called a week later to schedule the install. They did this in shop. Looks great.
AuPaul,
Where is Hoover? Or more specifically, where did you have the work done? If in northern Alabama, it might be another option, and I think inhouse work might be a better bet.
Glad yours turned out. I can put up with a little inconvenience as well, for a new top I didn't expect to get.

Thanks! I know the area - we 78 to 65 to 20 when visiting our daughter and family in Atlanta. Memphis is only about an hour away, so I'll see what they do first. A plan B is good, and I appreciate the information.

mine started to fall out. dealer talked chrysler to go 50-50 on replacement top. I want them to cover it 100%. Who did you contact to get all of the cost covered?
thanks
thanks
Get the 800 # from Chrysler web site. Call them with your Vin # and request they extend the warranty on your top. From what I have read here they are not covering all vin #s. They did cover mine 100%. My new top arrived at the dealer and they are replacing this week.
