Chrysler to Replace '05 Convertible Tops Under TSB - YAHOO!!
It is a warranty extension good up to 100K miles. If your car has over 100K miles on it then you are unable to make a claim on this. It doesn't matter if you bought an extended warranty or not, just as long as your car is a Roadster and has less than 100K miles on it.
He did not mention a specific year model. I have an apt at 3 today to take it in and let them check it. He said you don't just automatically get a new top bc of this bulletin. They have a test they can do on the window and if it checks out ok then they won't replace it. So, it has to actually need replacing to get replaced.
After 3 weeks my top is finally finished. Worth noting: Top is so tight that I can just get it to close. Interior of top appears to be vinyl with an embossed pattern. Rear window has a plastic interior frame. I'll post pictures after I pick it up.
Your mention of a "plastic interior frame" is the first thing I have heard about the new top being different from the original 2005 top. My window is separating and Chrysler won't cover it. Rather than just gluing in the window, can you tell me about the plastic frame, how it may improve on the original installation, and, give us pictures!
I got tired of waiting for Chrysler to fix my top after the window came loose 3 times the last time half the window came out. I reported it to Chrysler and also took it to the dealer to look at it and they checked with the district manager and the answer was I don't qualify for a new top. So I bought a new top from eBay and installed it last Sunday. Fits like a glove.
About 6 hours but I took my time and didn't rush to avoid any mistakes. I also had to replace the 2 stay pads (the 2 straps that run on each side of the top) because the drivers side was dry rotted I think because of the leaking rear window.

What top off of eBay did you get. The only ones listed are Chrysler replacements and how did you know how to replace it. Pretty much everyone says that you have to send in the original top. My wife's rear window fell out completely for the 2nd time and we had a lot of water damage I need to replace the whole thing. Tried gluing it in but it is a bear when the whole window falls out.
Was the Chrysler top just a simple take the old one off and put the new one on. and did it come with any directions or is it rather straight forward.
OK, so my "new" 2005 Crossfire SRT6 Roadster does have a rear window issue. The top is perfect accept the window is separating from the top on the drivers side edge. I spoke with a Chrysler Customer Service rep this afternoon. So far I have found this:
X31 is very real, but it only applies to Crossfires delivered to dealers in AL, FL, GA, LA, MO, NC, SC, TN and TX. Pretty strange to me. Mine is from CA.
The representative is doing more research for me. But it sounds like I am out of luck.

I felt that it was not that difficult you have to drill out the old rivets and replace with new that were supplied with the new top and remove some of the weather stripping. The directions I used were from the service manual which is available on the right here on this site.

Hello topless SRT,
My name is Michael and I live in Palm Desert,Ca. I bought my SRT6 roadster in Phoenix, Az........which is where it was originally delivered in 2005. The Chrysler people gave me the same explanation regarding the xx31 notice. They told me I would not be eligible since Arizona was not one of the eight states as referenced. I challenged them that the eight relevant states were all warm states where heat was causing the delamination .........and then asked them what part of Phoenix wasn't considerably hotter than any of the included states???? At that point their position began to change and within a couple more days they approved my entire top. You really have to keep on them and elevate to a higher authority if required. I would also call them out on their lack of consistent treatment of this problem as the precedent has clearly been set that they have approved claims from outside the states originally called out in the bulletin. Don't give up on this and fell free to contact me on a PM for additional details of my transaction. Good luck..........Michael

Got a new top today ! Very nice. Was about a 2 week process between Chrysler, Dealership, and me. A lot of confusion between the rep for Chrysler and service manager. She called me 3X saying service manager hadn't looked at the car yet. But I already had the car back in my hands with the new top when she was calling me ! Strange.
Pretty nice having a new good looking top

We're still waiting for the dealership to coordinate with the shop that's going to do the work...
Yesterday, finally got the time for the appointment for the installer people.
August 29th, 2012.....will have update sometime afterwards....

Had my new top installed this week. The local dealership had a bit of a time installing. After 3 days they failed in installing the weather stripping adequately. They forced it into the tug and groove. I am sure that it will eventually fall out. I will be taking it to a few shops this week for appraisals. And will submit to Chrysler US for approval.
FYI.
Chrysler US was very amenable. The top was ordered from Germany and paid for entirely via the TSB.
Anyone else with a problem with the weather strip install?
Peace,
Gino
