Chrysler to Replace '05 Convertible Tops Under TSB - YAHOO!!
Here is what I learned from my recent ordeal which was successfull concluded by Chrysler paying a substantial portion of the rplacement costs. 1) There is an extended warranty in effect for only VIN numbers that shipped to eight specific states. 2) the eight states are Florida,Georgia, North and South Carolina, Mississippi,Alabama and Texas. 3)They limited it to those states because of elevated weather temperatures. I asked Chrysler what part of Phoenix Arizona did they think was any cooler than the cited states. They then said it was not solely a temperature consideration, but also humidiity. I persisted that the Arizona temperature and humidity could put any of the included states to shame and that Chrysler needed to consult with a more knowledgeable weatherman. It was at this point they were willing to put my case in to a "cost assistance program" I suspect rather than to set the precident of opening up Pandora's Box and including more states. I was pleased with their assistance amount and continue to believe that Chrysler is a class organization.
I dont know much about its history but the '05 roadster I just bought from the Seattle area appears to have its original top and the seal for the back window is perfect. On the trip home I was going about 100 with a pretty good head wind, the rear window was flapping around quite a bit and still looks to be holding quite strongly. Wonder what is causing everybody else's issues with it......
Well, this is the second day my 05 roadster is at the dealer. Maybe they'll put the top on today. All I know is when the service writer was doing up the order he wasn't happy. When I went in to have the top ordered two weeks ago he told me that he didn't even know who at the shop could put it on because the guy they used to have wasn't there anymore. Oh well, at least I have a loaner, 2011 Jeep Patriot. And it's got Sirius so even if the Jeep is crappy the music isn't bad.
Hold out for better than a 50-50 deal. Talk to the Service Manager or the owner of dealership. The Crossfire Service Writer at my dealership told me that the dealer has to agree with the deal Chrysler is offering. Mine, Normandin in San Jose, told them $200 was the most I should pay, and that is what I paid.
The MSRP on the new top (part # CNA6X310AA) is $847.00, www.mopar2u.com (a Texas dealer) only charges $609.60 and still makes a profit. So there might be more room for negotiation. I understand that Chrysler was only paying $85 for installation.

I picked up my 05 yellow roadster today with a new top. Didnt cost me a cent although it took several months to get the top in. I live in Northeast GA and on the way to the dealer to pick it up I got behind another yellow roadster and I thought someone form the dealership was out joyriding in mine. Turns out it wasnt mine. Just wondering if any of you out there own a yellow roadster and live around Hall County GA

Car is at dealer for one week as of today. They can't find anyone who wants to put the new top on and none of their techs are willing to do the job. Still driving their loaner. Called Chrysler, they don't know what to tell me or how this problem might be resolved.

Technically he may be correct. It was not a "recall", it was an extension of the warranty for a limited number of owners.
For those owners covered it was the equivalent of a "recall", for the rest of us a way to get our tops repaired at a discounted price. Cost me $200.
But yes, it was a ridiculously worded insulting comment for his first post to this forum.

Hey Joe, if you will read the entire thread you will see that this is a limited TSB and not a recall and if your car is involved you will receive a letter informing you what to do.
Hi Mr. Kane (if that's your last name),
I can't tell you how much I appreciate your thread about Chrysler extending the warranty on the top. I went to Chrysler this am and my top will be in next week. I just had it reglued last week and it looked terrible. The shop that did the work said a new top would cost between $3-$4000 because of the limited edition. I couldn't live with it the way it was. That's when I went to the internet and found your forum. I never would have known without you. Thanks again, ****
